Wow do I regret not going to the Smackdown taping this week. What a super main event, I think it’s the best one Smackdown has given the fans in a very long time. There were other parts of the show that I really liked, and I will say the Chicago crowd was alive they didn’t let me down; it really was a good show. Off the bat their was only one bad segment. And I think you know what segment I’m referring too. I will talk about that one first. Other than that Smackdown was a solid show.
Okay on the count of three can you all say the worst segment was Heidenreich’s wrestling and poem? Okay 1, 2, and 3. Again there are people in the WWE that feel it’s so important to take some valuable time away from guys that deserve it and give it to Heidenreich. The gimmick died a long time ago; he again looked weak in the ring against a jobber. The match was like all of his short and worthless, and his poem about being in the Windy City and breaking wind was as unfunny and nauseating as it gets. I say either change this man’s gimmick, or send him down to OVW. I’m tired of watching Smack down and having this character come out, bring nothing to the show and just bring things down.
Listen even watching Torrie vs. Dawn Marie was better than what Heidenreich offered and that’s not saying much. It’s funny that Raw’s women’s division is about dead, and all of a sudden we get something close to a match by two women that are usually used for ripping each others’ clothes off, or hair out. The match last night wasn’t horrible; thankfully it was short and compared to Heidenrich’s it was good. Who knows maybe Dawn and Torrie will be sent to Raw to build up the women’s division, wow there’s a thought. Anyway, Smackdown put on one entertaining show. Okay in all fairness I really didn’t catch Orlando Jordan vs. Booker T. For some reason I found myself paying more attention to JBL’s commentary than the match. I wish I could tell you why but the old brain here just was set on one thing. So it’s not fair for me to even talk about this match, and the handicap match that immediately followed with Big Show and Booker facing Jordan and the Bashams. But I promise you I watched everything else.
Carlito’s Cabana won me over immediately. As many of you know that baby face on Carlito gets me all the time. Carlito’s job was to make all of us forget Piper’s Pit and The Highlight Reel with Chris Jericho. Now I don’t know if that will happen but it was a fun segment. The first guest was Rey Mysterio. He compared Rey with our Chicago Cubs, the Lovable Losers. And then very seriously he asked Rey how he felt about Eddie interfering in his title match last week. This killed me because he seemed so concerned and then he immediately perked up and showed a video. You have to see it but trust me it was funny. I was very pleased with the new tag team MNM. I have read so much about Joey Matthews, now known as Joey Mercury. And it’s all good where his wrestling is concern. I also read that Rey was very high on both guys Mercury and Nitro so I’m really anxious to see this team do their thing. I was also pleased with Melina and the way that the three made their entrance. I got a kick out of Carlito watching Rey getting beaten up by M/N. CCC first just stood and watched while eating his apple and then decided to relax in one of his chairs and take it all in. I can’t wait to see the next edition of Carlito’s Cabana.
The backstage segments first with JBL giving it to his cabinet for losing to Big Show and Booker was okay, it makes me wonder if JBL’s cabinet will slowly start to disappear or if things will be back to normal next week. And Eddie going to an injured Rey and apologizing for not being there for him really got weird. Here’s Eddie trying to make things right with Rey and then he says that he’s going to win his match against Kurt, win the title from John Cena and the matches will all be dedicated to Rey. Oh yeah I’m sure that made Rey feel so much better. I love what’s going on with these two guys and again wouldn’t it be great if it’s Rey that makes that heel turn and not Eddie? Okay maybe it’s because I’m from the Chicago area but I thought John Cena’s promo was one of his best last night. I felt he was totally on his game, and finally things that came out of his mouth made sense. I was very happy with it, and when JBL got animal guts thrown on him, I found that fitting since JBL has seemed to escape a lot in the last several months. However, I don’t like the new belt. Trust me I’m not losing sleep over it, but it’s way too gaudy for me. But as I said I found Cena to be better on the mic than he has in a while, damn I should have gone to that show. Seriously, Sharmell Booker T’s wife has really been doing a nice job. She’s probably the best cheerleader a guy could ask for and her little interaction with Kurt Angle was good. She wasn’t taken any crap from Kurt and even though he tried insulting Booker, it was Sharmell that had the last word, by reminding Kurt that it was Eddie that beat him last year at Wrestlemania, oh yeah Kurt didn’t like that. Last night was definitely Kurt’s night, he showed that in the main event, but first I was happy that Paul London was brought out even for a few minutes to challenge Chavo Guerrero to a “fight” not a match. London wasn’t clear to wrestle thanks to having 18 stitches in his head from last week’s match, but he wanted Chavo to even things up. Naturally Chavo wasn’t biting but Billy Kidman was. Kidman made a surprise appearance in the ring and went after London. London came out victorious. It was London’s small way of sending Chavo a message. They didn’t put on a cruiserweight match, but this worked okay, it showed how tough Paul London is and that he’s ready for Chavo.
And now for one of the best main events on Smackdown. Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero was totally off the charts. Kurt must be feeling so damn well, because his looking totally outstanding in the ring. Eddie and Kurt have amazing chemistry and believe me WWE is making a huge mistake by not keeping these two in a feud just a little longer. While I would love to see Kurt vs. Cena, watching Eddie and Kurt put more matches on like last night’s would really put a smile on my face. Eddie was able to do a little cheating and add some humor to this match. Eddie brought a chair in and did his thing making the ref think that Kurt knocked him out with it. The ref bought it when he saw Eddie flat on the mat and the chair on the floor. That chair played a big part as the match came to an end. Angle put the ankle lock on Guerrero, as Eddie kicked Angle off, Kurt fell into the ref knocking him out. This gave Angle an opportunity to get the chair and just when he planned to use it Rey Mysterio ran in and took Kurt out. So now Rey is holding the chair, and Eddie sees this and starts to beg Rey not to hit him with it. Mysterio would never do that to Eddie or would he? Well we will never know because Kurt came back and pushed Rey into Eddie with the chair, causing a loss for Eddie. Last week it was Rey that got screwed because of Eddie and last night, Guerrero suffered the same kind of loss. It was a tremendous main event. Kurt and Eddie looked like real wrestling Gods and Rey played his part perfectly.
Two very good shows this week, and with both shows coming from Madison Square Garden this coming Monday I would think we will have another week of strong programming. It’s been some week with so many releases, so I’m hoping that next week we have a lot of positive news and even upbeat rumors to talk about.
