Big News: Kurt Angle defeated Eddie Guerrero in their Championship Series
match, when help from Rey backfired on Eddie. MNM debuted to attack Rey
Mysterio during Carlito’s Cabana. Next week will feature Booker T
versus Big Show in the final Championship Series match. Also, John Cena
debuted his new title.
Turns/Title Changes: None.
Best Match: Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero
Worst Match: Heidenreich vs. Unknown
Line of the Night: None.
Show Details: The show started with the Smackdown Rebound from RAW.
Shouldn’t JBL have been disqualified since it was Rey’s pin that
was broken?
Orlando Jordan with JBL vs. Booker T
JBL joined the commentary table and ripped Michael Cole, making JBL the
babyface. Seriously, they need heel commentators. Cole backs all the faces,
but fans don’t like Michael Cole, negating his purpose as a face
announcer. Tazz backs most of the heels, but people like Tazz, so the heels
get over in the wrong way. Jordan attacked Booker T as he was distracted by
JBL. Booker T came back but was attacked by the Bashams for the DQ, which
was a plan devised by JBL. Big Show came out for the save and the heels fled
the ring. Teddy Long said the match would continue as a handicap match. JBL
said Teddy was a disgrace to the human race and Martin Luther King must be
spinning in his grave.
Orlando Jordan & Basham Brothers vs. Booker T & Big Show
The Bashams knocked Show out of the ring but Booker was able to gain
control. Show speared Doug Basham on the outside of the ring. Booker did the
Spinarooni and nailed the Scissors Kick for the win over Danny Basham, who
pinned Eddie Guerrero two weeks ago. Big Show wanted JBL to come in the
ring, but JBL left berating his Cabinet. I don’t see how Booker and
Big Show being friendly is supposed to add to their match next week.
Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie
For all those who think I made a mistake last week when I said Dawn Marie
won the Bikini Contest instead of Torrie, that was actually done on purpose.
I’m sure some of you out there know out why. And now, we’re
being rewarded with this match. Dawn was all over Torrie to start this
match. Torrie chants followed by We want
puppies. Dawn hit a face plant but Torrie kicked out. Torrie hit a
school boy for two, followed by a neck breaker for the win. Dawn wins this
match on points. This match served no purpose.
Carlito came out for Carlito’s Cabana. He said Piper’s Pit and
the Highlight Reel weren’t cool. He said Chicago isn’t cool
because the Cubs haven’t won a World Series in 100 years. Carlito
referred to them as Lovable Losers, which reminded him of his
guest Rey Mysterio. Carlito blamed Eddie for costing Rey his first shot at
the WWE Title. Rey said he knows Carlito is just trying to come between
them, but Eddie is like family to Mysterio. MNM interrupted. Melina
introduced Nitro and Mercury. Carlito thinks they’re cool. Melina
thinks Nitro and Matthews can beat Rey and Eddie for the tag titles. Since
Eddie wasn’t there, they attacked Rey. The crowd was chanting for
Eddie, but he never showed. This was entertaining and a good way to
introduce MNM.
JBL continued to berate his Cabinet backstage. He ran into a delivery boy
with a package for John Cena. JBL paid the guy off and took the package,
thinking it’s the new WWE Title. Rey was being taken care of backstage
by the trainer when Eddie Guerrero ran in hot over what he heard just
happened to Rey. Mysterio wanted to know where Eddie was. Guerrero was
flustered and said he had car problems, and asked how Rey could even
question Eddie. Mysterio was still angry over losing to JBL last week. Eddie
said he would make it up to Rey, and is dedicating all his matches to Rey
until he can win the WWE Title. Guerrero promised everyone that he would
beat Kurt Angle tonight.
John Cena made his way to the ring. Michael Cole said Cena has a new CD
coming out next month and rumours of a music video. Cena pandered to the
people of Chicago. He said JBL stole something important so JBL better bring
it out now or else Cena is going after him. JBL entered with a trash can and
the package. JBL took off his jacket to reveal that he was wearing the real
WWE Title, which JBL snatched from Cena’s locker room. JBL said he
would not allow Cena desecrate the legacy JBL has built. JBL opened the box
and reached down to find animal guts from a slaughter house. That was a gift
from Cena who dumped the rest of the guts over JBL. The new WWE Heavyweight
Championship was lowered from the top of the building. It looks pretty
terrible. The crowd was hot for Cena.
Heidenreich vs. Unknown Jobber
Heidenreich won with a side slam. This was dreadfully boring and the crowd
was dead. He read a poem after the match about breaking wind. What the hell
are they doing?
Booker T was backstage doing a photo shoot. Sharmell said he would be the
next WWE Champion. Kurt Angle interjected, saying he made Shawn Michaels tap
out and would go on to become a five time WWE Champion, something Booker
hasn’t even done once. Sharmell spoke for Booker, reminding Angle that
he lost to Eddie Guerrero last year at WrestleMania. They announced the RAW
2005 Diva Search, even though this is Smackdown. I’m going to miss
Molly Holly.
Paul London called out Chavo Guerrero for a fight. London said he had 18
staples in his head from last week so he isn’t cleared to wrestle.
Chavo said he would wrestle him as soon as London is medically cleared. But
since Chavo is a Guerrero and a man of honour, he wouldn’t fight
London tonight. Billy Kidman attacked London from behind, but London fought
back. Chavo tried to get involved, but London gave him the dropsault and
followed with a 450 splash on Kidman.
Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero
Crowd chanted Eddie to open the match. After an exchange, the
crowd chanted Angle sucks. Eddie gave Angle a hip toss and
Kurt fled the ring to regroup. Eddie hit and arm drag and followed with the
triple vertical suplexes. Eddie went for the Frog Splash, but was able to
adjust and rolled through as Angle rolled out of the ring. Guerrero was in
control as they went to commercial. After the break, Angle hit a series of
uppercuts to Eddie and hit a vertical suplex for a one count. Angle nailed a
belly to belly suplex and went for the Angle Slam, but Eddie countered into
a head scissors. When Angle kicked out, Eddie fell back onto the referee and
knocked him out. Guerrero grabbed a steal chair and tossed to Angle and
played possum. Angle threw the chair out of the ring, but the ref saw the
chair out of position. Guerrero gave Angle a school boy for an extremely
close near fall. Eddie hit a tilt-a-whirl head scissors but Angle came back
with a German Suplex as Eddie played to the crowd. Angle had Guerrero down,
holding him in a leg scissors. Guerrero fought out with a series of elbows
but Angle nailed a German suplex as Eddie came off the ropes. Eddie went for
the Frog Splash but Angle got his knees up. After another commercial break,
Angle hit scoop slam for a two count and applied a bear hug. More
Eddie chants started as they did throughout the match. Eddie
countered another Angle Slam attempt into a DDT. Guerrero went for the three
suplexes again, but Angle reversed the third suplex into an Angle Slam but
Eddie kicked out. Angle went for the Ankle Lock but Eddie rolled him up for
a near fall. Guerrero used a school boy for another two count. Kurt Angle
hit the triple German Suplexes but Guerrero kicked out. Kurt went for
another Angle Slam but Eddie reversed into an arm drag and hit the three
verticals. Guerrero finally nailed the Frog Splash but Angle kicked out.
Eddie dropped Angle’s tights to the delight of the crowd and rolled up
Angle for a near fall. Angle applied the Ankle Lock and Eddie kicked Kurt
into the referee. Angle grabbed a steel chair and sized up Eddie, but Rey
ran down and hit Angle with the sitting senton. Mysterio grabbed the chair
to attack Angle, but Kurt rolled out of the ring. Eddie saw Rey with the
chair and thought Mysterio was going to attack him. Angle pushed Rey and the
chair into Eddie. Kurt covered Eddie and the referee made the slow three
count. Angle moves on.
