Let me tell you just how excited I am about tonight’s Wrestlemania. I just got back from visiting my parents, as many of you know my mom has been hit with two strokes and is not in the greatest condition, so I went to see her and as soon as I walked into their house the first thing that came out of my mouth was, “I can’t stay long it’s the big one tonight, and I want to get home.” Naturally my mom and dad had no idea what I was talking about so I told them about Wrestlemania, and how I wanted to get my column posted, so that I can watch the Hall of Fame ceremony again, then Heat and then the Super Bowl of wrestling, Wrestlemania, and trust me after that they totally got it, in fact my dad kept watching the time so I wouldn’t stay too long, or maybe he just couldn’t wait to get me out of there so the wrestling talk would end. But I am so excited about the show, and I’m going to tell you that Rowdy Roddy Piper is partially the reason. While many of you also know I am not a fan of his, watching him last night inducted into the HOF and doing his standup routine had me laughing so hard that now I can’t wait to see Austin as Piper’s guest. If Piper is as funny as last night, this segment will definitely rock the show. And one more thing, the HOF show was done with nothing but class and maybe next year WWE will be able to televise the whole show, that’s something I would love to see. Okay as you can tell I’m on a high so let me get right to the predictions and again you all have been great sending me your picks. I noticed this is one pay per view where no one really is coming up with the same picks, that’s how unpredictable this card is, and that’s what is going to make the show worth watching.
First while there has been a lot of talk about a 30 man Royal Rumble match for tonight’s show, I am now reading that there will be a match, but it will not be on TV, it will be saved for the Wrestlemania DVD, so I won’t even venture a guess for this one.
Women’s Championship – Trish Stratus vs. Christy Hemme (with Lita)
I’m not going to lie to you and say Christy deserves this because it’s Victoria and Molly that should have had a chance for this title. As I said many weeks ago, if they thought the need to give Christy the spotlight due to her Playboy spread then this match should not have been made for the title. At least Trish doesn’t have to come down a few notches by doing some kind of lingerie or bikini match, so I guess that’s the positive about this one. Hopefully this will come off okay, and it won’t go on too long. It did hit me that Lita could turn on Christy, with the excuse that she got paid $250,000.00 to become a diva, but I don’t know if that will happen. I do feel Trish will win, at least I hope so because a Christy win would be an insult, kind of like David Arquette winning the title a few years ago in the WCW.
Winner: Trish
Sumo Match – Big Show vs. Akebono
I can’t tell you how many of you told me that you could care less about this one. I feel just about the same way. I don’t know why the need for this match on such a major pay per view, except to give Big Show something, but still I think of all the matches on the card this is the one I least care to watch. I have absolutely no idea how this will come off or who will win but I’m going with Big Show, just so he can get a win.
Winner: Big Show
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio
Finally we get something to see. While this baby really didn’t get a long build up at all, Eddie has been able to show his frustrations very well against Rey. I know these two will give the fans something to cheer about, and even though these guys are a tag team, I am expecting Eddie to turn tonight on Rey and also get the win. However, if Eddie remained a face with Rey that would be even better, I would love to see two faces give us a super match.
Winner: Eddie Guerrero
The Money In The Bank Ladder Match – Edge vs. Kane vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Christian vs. Chris Jericho
Just by looking at this you know that this is one of the matches that is going to steal the show. I am looking so forward to this one. I know Kane is more than capable but it’s the other 5 that I feel will stand out. I expect this to be one of the lengthier matches of the night and totally filled with excitement from beginning to end and as much as I would love to see Chris Jericho win like so many of you told me, I see Edge getting this victory and getting his title shot very soon.
Winner: Edge
Legend vs. Legend Killer – Undertaker vs. Randy Orton
Okay, granted like a few others this one didn’t get a long time build up but the build up it got was done brilliantly. It was the appearance of Cowboy Bob Orton and Randy’s RKO on Taker this past Thursday night that really put the icing on the cake. Now with Randy having an injured shoulder and being kept out of the ring for several months, truthfully I don’t know how much he can give. I feel he will do his best and it’s so nice to see Taker in a match without Luther Reigns and Heidenreich, I’m sure he’s going to definitely give his all. I’m going with Taker and I was going with him whether Randy was hurt or not, I cannot see Taker’s 12-0 record end tonight even if Randy’s dad helps out, Taker is winning this one.
Winner: Undertaker
Pipers Pit, with Special guest, Steve Austin
Okay here’s my take on all of this, I think it’s just about certain that Hogan vs. Hassan isn’t happening. So here’s what I see. I see the fans going berserk for the return of Stone Cold, and I see Piper annoying Steve as much as he can, and just as that’s getting good I see Hassan and Daivari crashing Piper’s Pit. Hassan will be bitching and complaining, and the only way to stop him and his sidekick will be Austin hitting them with a few of his stunners. I would be so surprised if this doesn’t happen and if it does you can imagine how the fans will react to all of this.
Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels
I remember when so many rumors were going around about Wrestlemania and one big one was that Kurt vs. HBK would happen, and when I saw that I smiled like you wouldn’t believe because that is one of my dream matches. This rumor became the real thing and I cannot tell you how much I want to see it. I do feel this without a doubt be the match of the night, and I hope Kurt and Shawn are in good enough shape where they can just let it go as long as possible. I found this to be a very hard match to pick, but I’m going with Shawn on this one, and I’m hoping that this all doesn’t stop once Wrestlemania is over.
Winner: Shawn Michaels
WWE Champion – JBL vs. John Cena
Talk about a difficult decision, all this time I have been picking JBL to retain the title, but after watching Smackdown the other night, I don’t feel that secure about a JBL win. But I’m staying with him and my feeling is that John Cena the most over man in the WWE. This means he will continue his quest for the title and at the next Smackdown pay per view, John will then win and end JBL’s title reign. I think this would bring in big buy rates with the fans wanting so much for Cena to walk out as the next WWE champion. I know the way the crowd feels about Cena they will be alive through out this one which should make for a match definitely one not to miss.
Winner: JBL
World Champion – HHH vs. Batista
This feud started out so hot, but it definitely has cooled off which I’m not happy about. But Batista is over with the fans, not as much as John Cena but he’s over big and that’s going to keep the fans interested in what happens. I’m going with Batista, my thinking is this. As far as out of the ring, this man is loved, as far as in the ring, we really haven’t seen much of him and the little we have seen hasn’t been all that great. I would love to think with Hunter in there Batista will look like a million bucks. Hunter will have to carry him, but Dave isn’t exactly crap in the ring, he just needs to sell better and if he does this could come off pretty good.
Winner: Dave Batista
Three hours to go and the more I got into writing this the more excited I am about the show. I will do my best to write something about it tomorrow, but if I can’t then what I will do is write about it on Tuesday and Raw on Wednesday. Next year at this time, I hope to God that I’ll be at the Allstate Arena for Wrestlemania 22 and then I can give you my live thoughts, whoa that just gave me the chills. Okay enjoy the show if you are ordering, and if you are not, just keep checking sites for recaps. And don’t forget Spike is repeating the HOF awards at 5:00 est. time.
