Erin Angel is one of the promising young rookies on the British wrestling scene, in a division that is crying out for talent – the women’s division. Erin has earned a great deal of praise with her early performances. I had the opportunity to catch up with her for this interview.
Julian Radbourne (JR); Erin, thanks for taking the time out for this interview.
Erin Angel (EA);o problem, it’s a pleasure.
JR;Let’s start with some background information, where you’re from, that sort of thing.
EA; Ok where to start! I’m 17 year’s olds and I live in Southampton.
JR; When did your interest in wrestling begin, and who were your favourites back then?
EA;Well, I don’t have one of those stories like others who have grown up loving wrestling since they were tiny as I only have a younger brother; I wasn’t introduced to the wrestling world until he started watching it!
JR; When did you decide that you wanted to become a professional wrestler?
EA; Pretty much as soon as I set eyes on it! About two and a half years ago.
JR; How did you go about finding a training school?
EA; I saw an advert in my local newspaper for a show at the Guildhall; I went along and got a number for TWA training school. I’d only been 3 times when the promoter moved abroad, before he moved he introduced me to top British wrestler and promoter Phil Powers who trained me from there on.
JR; How hard, or easy, was the training?
EA; It’s tough, I worked very hard my body ached so much!
JR; How long did you train before your first professional match?
EA; I was manageress after three months and had my first match on a small show about 5 months into my training.
JR; What were your thoughts going into that contest?
EA; I was very nervous! But at the same time ready to give it my best shot!
JR; How would you rate your performance in that first bout?
EA; Well I wouldn’t say it was my best match, and I didn’t win but I tried very hard!
JR; You mainly compete in a division that many fans think is woefully lacking in talent at the moment. What’s your opinion of the current state of women’s wrestling in Britain?
EA; I think British wrestling as a whole is improving; there are many new talented British females breaking through so the future is bright!
JR; Have you modelled yourself on any other wrestler, and who would you like to wrestle that you haven’t wrestled yet?
EA; I haven’t modelled myself on another wrestler. I wrestle a British style and studied lots of world of sport tapes for moves I can use as well as using ‘newer’ high-flying moves.
JR; How well do you think your career has gone so far, keeping in mind that it’s very much in the early stages at the moment?
EA; I think my wrestling career so far has gone well, I’m only 18 years old and have already been wrestling regularly for 2 years. I improving all the time and I am working for the best promotions in Britain.
JR; Who’s been your toughest opponent?
EA; Couldn’t choose between Klondyke Kate and Sweet Sayara.
JR; How do you spend your time away from wrestling?
EA; Outside of wrestling I enjoy competiting in swimming events. I also like shopping and clubbing, just like all girls my age!
JR; Anything else you’d like to plug while we’re here?
EA; My website! www.erinangel.co.uk and www.glorywrestling.com for independent female wrestlers
JR; Any final words for your fans?
EA; Thanks for reading this! Hope to see you all at shows in the near future. All the best and take care!
JR; Erin, thank you for your time, and I look forward to following your career.
