Ah, I believe today is the first day of spring, so why not kick off one of my favorite seasons with one of my favorite themed columns? That would be asking you a few questions. I love this so much because I get so many great thoughts from you. Okay I’ll throw out a few I’ll tell you what I think and then please let me hear from you.
1. Rumor has it that after Wrestlemania there is going to be another draft. What wrestlers would you like to switch around? I won’t list a lot but off hand this is what I would do. I would definitely send Randy Orton to Smackdown and for him Raw would get Kurt Angle. I would love to see Kane go to Smackdown for some new blood and for Kane I would send Eddie Guerrero to Raw. I would also like to see Charlie Haas sent to Raw and Jericho to Smackdown. While there is not doubt that Raw was Jericho, I say was because it seems that Jericho has lost a little steam lately, none of which is his fault. So like Kane Jericho needs some fresh feuds and I think Smackdown would totally benefit from Chris being there. So let me know who you would like to see traded should this draft take place.
2. This next subject seems to be a very popular one with so many of my readers. I get a lot of feedback dealing with the Randy Orton heel turn. Did WWE do the right thing in turning Randy heel again? Or, did WWE screw up turning him face in the first place after he won the World Title? Something definitely went wrong back in the fall. I remember reading only after two weeks into Randy’s title reign that WWE was unhappy with the fan reaction he was getting as a face. Now I could not understand that he seemed to be extremely over with the fans, especially after he spit in Hunter’s face. I didn’t understand why WWE thought he was bombing as a face when it just happened. Also, I felt Randy was coming along fine until he hosted Raw. If you recall that was the night he was doing a lot of flirting and coming off more like the Rock. That’s the night when the divas did a strip tease for him and on the following day I wrote that the show really didn’t help him at all. He was way too flirty, trying way too hard to be like Rock and there was nothing interesting about him. I also thought that as bad as he came off that he would bounce right back and get back into character, but that never happened. If you recall we had more weeks of Rock Orton instead of Randy Orton and the more he did interviews or promos the weaker he looked on the mic. Randy’s wrestling never went down that’s always been very good, but out of the ring he lost it, he lost a lot. I’m very happy about this heel turn. Randy seems a natural as heel, all cocky and smug. I am totally for this and I think it’s going to get Randy back on track with his character, which in turn will get the fans really into him as a self assured heel.
3. Okay the final question. If there were two titles you would like to see brought back, one for each show what would they be? For me, I would love the Hard-core title to return, but that’s only if the matches are hardcore matches, and not a few minutes of garbage can lids being slammed on someone’s head. I remember when we were at Backlash in 2001 and Rhyno and Raven came out and put on a fantastic hardcore match. You give me matches like that and I say bring back the hardcore title. Now one of my readers Josh suggested they have a Middleweight title belt. This would open the doors for Jericho, Benoit, Eddie and a few others. I would have no problem with that. As long as the cruiserweights have their title and the bigger guys like Hunter, Batista and so on have theirs why not give the guys in between something to go for. I think it’s a great idea.
So there you go, I can’t wait to hear from you. Before I go I have a few things to I want to mention. I just read that Marty Jannetty has been signed by WWE. And this part isn’t definite but it’s believed he’s going to Raw. I am so happy about this, for someone like me that started in 1998 it’s going to be great to watch him wrestle, this is very good news. Also I want to thank so many of you that pointed out that Benoit did lose to Hunter back in 2000 when the Radicals started. He lost to Hunter thanks to interference which I want to say was Stephanie. But he lost so thank you for reminding me.
I will be back on Tuesday with my Raw thoughts. This is the second to the last Raw before Wrestlemania, and we know it’s Kane vs. Batista in the Pick Your Poison match thanks to Triple H. I would like to think that this is going to be good, but with Kane now a face at least I think he is I’m not quite sure how this will come off. I cannot wait to find out what the writers have planned for the HBK/Angle feud and the ladder match, oh yeah I’m sure something good will come from that on Monday night. It’s going to be hard to top last week’s Raw, but I have a feeling this show will be good. Finally today is my 5th Anniversary. It has been a super five years for me. Through email I have made so many friends and I was so very lucky to interview Rob Van Dam. I have never EVER taken this for granted; it’s an honor for me to be able to do this on a weekly basis. If I didn’t have all of you to share my thoughts with I would be lost, so thank you all.
