Over the course of the next three weeks I will proudly present Mania’ Mayhem. Mania’ Mayhem is simple: each week we’ll highlight a couple matches, and/or segments that are scheduled for the WrestleMania PPV. From the WWE Title match to Pipers Pit, we’ll debate and discuss all of the events and matches planned for WrestleMania 21 live from Hollywood. We’ll keep you updated on all the recent ‘Mania news, and I’ll add in a little bit of fact and a whole lot of opinion. So set back, relax, and enjoy:
‘Mania Mayhem V.1: Main Event And Interpromotional Match-Ups
Triple H one on one with Batista for the prized World Heavyweight Title. John Bradshaw Layfield defends his WWE Title against John Cena. Two huge matches, one huge event. But on the midst of WrestleMania 21 I’m faced with the critical question: which main event match will be better? Last year both main events looked phenomenal. I thought for sure Eddie and Kurt would steal the show, and that the main event from Raw would be good–but not great. I was absolutely wrong! Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, and Triple H gave one of the best WrestleMania matches ever and truly stole the show, while Kurt Angle and Guerrero had a mediocre and average ‘Mania match. This year I’m divided. On one hand you have the fastest growing superstar in the WWE, Batista, taking on what I call the Raw “dictator” Triple H. It’s years in the making. Tension upon tension in Evolution has been building, and building. And the climax of the feud has been building officially since late this fall. The feud has the advantage of a real story, something the SmackDown main event lacks. But on the other hand, you have the longest reigning WWE champion in the last decade Bradshaw taking on, the ever popular John Cena. While the story isn’t there, I believe Cena and JBL will have a phenomenal match. You have one of WWE’s top babyfaces John Cena taking on WWE’s top heel John Bradshaw Layfield. Perfection at it’s finest. The thing with WrestleMania is it’s so unpredictable. Batista and Triple H could very well steal the show, and vice versa with JBL and John Cena. It’s just so unpredictable, you’ll give your self a headache trying to figure it out.
Look at the two faces: John Cena is a huge superstar in the WWE. He’s popular, he’s a good athlete, and he would make a very good WWE champion. On the other hand, Batista has is growing in popularity, he has the size, and he has the strength to carry the ball on Raw. Both Cena and Batista are very deserving World Heavyweight and WWE champions. On the other hand, John Bradshaw Layfield can talk up a storm on the mic, increasingly impressive in-ring performances, and is in my opinion WWE’s top heel in the last decade or so. With the title as the longest reigning WWE champion in the last ten years, JBL reigns supreme on SmackDown. Then you have Triple H. He has the size, the in-ring ability, and the overall attitude of a World champion. If you match up Triple H and JBL against Batista and Cena, it’s a perfect match. Two evenly matched title matches, with four incredible WWE superstars. Would could ask for two better WrestleMania main events?
How about Undertaker and Randy Orton? Or Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels. Two huge interpromotional matches on one card, at one WrestleMania. Taker who has a 12-0 win record will defend it all against Randy Orton. It’s legend versus legend killer one on one. Then you have a match between two of the arguably greatest wrestlers in WWE history, Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle battling out after their feud began back at Royal Rumble when HBK eliminated Kurt Angle over the top rope. Shawn Michaels made the challenge, and Angle accepted after attacking Michaels after a huge Streetfight with arch nemesis Edge. Orton and Taker, HBK and Kurt Angle. Two huge interpromotional match-ups, no telling which will steal the show at WrestleMania. While Angle and Shawn Michaels seem to be the easy pick, don’t underestimate Randy Orton nor the Deadman in their match. Unpredictability is what makes wrestling it’s very best, and WrestleMania is no different. So when these two Raw superstars take on two SmackDown superstars, there really is no telling what can happen in that ring. When ‘Mania goes Hollywood, anything can and will happen in the WWE.
Ok there you have it, Mania’ Mayhem V.1. Next week we’ll highlight the Hall Of Fame ceremony, Piper’s Pit, and of course the HUGE 6-man “Money In The Bank” Ladder match. That’s all next week in the Mania’ Mayhem V.2, right here at the Wright Idea.
A.J. Styles To Leave TNA for WWE?
Huge News from the wrestling front. It seems Mr. TNA himself, the Phenomenal one, A.J. Styles is apparently considering making a jump from TNA to none other then our beloved WWE. Which is weird, because you may remember A.J. turned down a WWE contract back when TNA opened. So why would Styles consider a WWE contract now? We’ll he’s going to have a kid, and he’s worried he needs some more money to raise his bouncing baby boy (or girl). Look, I don’t blame A.J. Styles for wanting to leave TNA. He should have left them a long time ago. TNA is a sinking ship. But would A.J. really be that much better off in WWE? It’s doubtful. Look what WWE did to Paul London, Akio, and even hall of famer Cruiserweight Ultimo Dragon. There is no real guarantee A.J. Styles will have the impact in WWE that he has in TNA. In TNA he has been X division, tag team, and NWA World Heavyweight champion. The only triple crown winner in TNA history! A.J. may as well stay in TNA, ask for a pay increase, and work his butt off to lure the sinking ship from the iceberg TNA is heading for faster then the Titanic in 1912. My advice for the Phenomenal one is this. Don’t abandon TNA just yet. After all, in my humble opinion your one of the few wrestlers keeping TNA half way popular. Your a incredible talent, and you don’t deserve mid-card WWE or even main eventing Velocity. TNA has potential. With WWE leaving SpikeTV in September, rumors are running wild that TNA is planning on taking over WWE’s timeslot at SpikeTV. And TNA plans on revamping the Monday Night Wars. If anyone needs to be in TNA when that happens it’s A.J. Styles. Who means more to TNA, then A.J. Styles? He’s the foundation of Total Nonstop Action wrestling. TNA is his playground, and he is TNA’s ground keeper.
That’s all I have to say for this week. I know, another column, another columnist, and another WrestleMania column. BUT remember folks it only comes once a year, the grand daddy of them all. I thought I would prevent you from pulling your hair out by adding a little bit on what I had to say about A.J. Styles. I’ll be back next week with Volume 2 of our ‘Mania Mayhem. Reporting from my 1 year and six month anniversary, see you all next week…..
Have A Nice Day, The Wright Way!
