Smackdown for March 3rd began with a recap of Orlando Jordan‘s win over John Cena for the the U.S. Title (with help from JBL) from last week.
John Bradshaw Layfield, Orlando Jordan, The Bashams and a group of security went to the ring. JBL praised Orlando Jordan for winning the U.S. Title, saying Jordan did it “by himself “. JBL referred to Jordan as “OJ” while saying he left his family and “inner city life” behind to seek out greatness. JBL then claimed that he and Jordan would defeat Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio later tonight for the WWE Tag Team Title. JBL made fun of Cena’s spinning U.S. Title belt, and said it must be destroyed. JBL had the Basham’s bring in a section of the ringsteps and a trash can. They put the belt in the trash can and, using a detonator, set off a fiery explosion, presumably destroying the belt. JBL then said he had something flown in from the WWE offices, and produced the old U.S. Title belt. JBL gave the belt to Jordan, and the two posed on the ringsteps in the ring.
The Forrest Gump spoof with Eugene and William Regal was shown.
Josh Mathews was shown waiting at the building entrance for John Cena.
Booker T vs. Heidenreich, No Disqualification. Heidenreich hit a kick to the gut and pounded Booker down with punches to start. Heidenreich worked over the body with punches, but ran into a Booker elbow. Booker unloaded with chops, but Heidenreich kneed Booker in the gut and resumed his punching offense. Heidenreich hit a side slam for a two count, then choked Booker against the middle rope. Back and forth punching, then Booker hit a series of chops and gave Heidenreich a low blow. Booker took the fight to the floor, and went to ram Heidenreich into the announcers table, but Heidenriech blocked it and rammed Booker into it. Heidenreich went for a chair, but Booker kicked Heidenreich in the gut before he could use it. Booker went to whip Heidenreich into the ring post, but Heidenreich reversed it, sending Booker into the post. They went over the security wall and into the crowd, with Heidenreich dominating.
Heidenreich took Booker back into the ring and covered for two. Booker came back with a flying forearm off a Heidenreich whip and a clothesline, then hit a spinebuster. Heidenreich booted a charging Booker and flipped him with a clothesline for two. Heidenreich went outside for a chair. Heidenreich slid it into the ring, got in, and slowly walked into the center of the ring, sliding the chair across the mat. Booker gave Heidenreich an ax kick into the chair on the mat. Booker followed with a superkick, then gave Heidenreich a chairshot for the win at the eight minute mark. Winner: Booker T.
They replayed Randy Orton‘s challenge to the Undertaker from Raw.
Backstage, General Manager Theodore R. Long was talking to someone on his phone about recent Smackdown events. Carlito Caribbean Cool entered, still complaining about having to shovel snow last week. Long started talking about the possibility of Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Long told Carlito to go find the Undertaker and get his response to the challenge. Carlito protested, but Long told him he had to, or he would be fired.
Backstage, Chavo Guerrero wished Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio good luck in their tag title defense tonight against JBL & OJ. Chavo said he didn’t want them to lose, because that would make him the only Guerrero on Smackdown with championship gold. As Chavo left, Mysterio and Guerrero wondered what Chavo was up to.
Josh Mathews was still outside waiting for Cena.
Carlito was roaming the back looking for Undertaker, when the lights went off. Carlito freaked out, then a maintenance man apologized for turning the lights off, saying he thought no one was in the area.
Luther Reigns vs. Mark Jindrak. Jindrak jumped Luther in the aisle to start the match, but Luther took over immediately in the ring, hitting a backdrop and a series of crossface blows. Reigns applied an armbar, but Jindrak broke out and hit a clothesline. Jindrak hit some punches to the gut, but Reigns came back with a knee to the gut. Jindrak hit a back elbow and a clothesline, then delivered a dropkick. Jindrak hit a splash in the corner, floating over the top rope after hitting Reigns. Jindrak hit a top rope bodypress for a two count. Jindrak whipped Reigns into a corner, then charged, but Reigns hit him with an elbow. Jindrak came back with a left hook to the face, and covered Reigns for the pin at the three minute mark. Winner: Mark Jindrak.
Jindrak was shaking his hand as if he hurt it as he left the ring.
John Cena arrived. Josh Mathews tried to talk to him, but Cena, who had a steel pipe, said he had business to take care of, and that he was heading to the ring.
Back from break, Cena was in the ring, still brandishing the pipe. Cena said that JBL likes the break titles, but he likes to break faces. Cena called out JBL and his cabinet. No one came out. Cena called them out again, but they still didn’t come out. Cena vowed to take the WWE Title at Wrestlemania, but said that this wasn’t about titles now. Cena said he just wanted to beat them up (in so many words). Theodore R. Long came out, and tried to calm Cena. Long offered Cena a rematch with Jordan for the U.S. Title. Cena said he wanted an “eye for an eye” for last week. Long said he couldn’t have Cena ruin the Wrestlemania main event for Smackdown. Cena said he was going to go into the back to get at JBL and his crew. Long said he couldn’t allow that to happen, and that he was just doing his job. Cena said that “you’re either a part of the solution or part of the problem” and since Long wouldn’t let him at JBL, he was part of the problem. Cena gave Long an FU and headed for the back, in search of JBL.
After the break, they showed the FU on Long again. The announcers explained that Long had Cena ejected from the arena during the commercial.
Kurt Angle’s gold medal was hanging over the ring, with a ladder under it, as Angle came to the ring for the next Hometown Challenge. Kurt Angle had them show footage of the famous ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon at Wrestlemania 10. Angle said if he was in a ladder match, he could put Shawn Michaels’ performance to shame. Angle then said his opponent tonight would face him in a ladder match.
Kurt Angle vs. Mike Heywood, Ladder Match. Angle slapped Heywood as he was introducing himself, then crossfaced him in a corner. Angle gave Heywood a belly to belly suplex, then tore at his face with a modified camel clutch. Angle hit a crossface blow and pounded Heywood with punches. Angle hit an Angle Slam, then started to climb the ladder. Angle stopped, got back down, and pulled off the straps. Angle applied the ankle lock, and Heywood tapped, but this wasn’t a regular match, so there was no bell. Angle finally released the hold, and Heywood rolled to the floor. Angle casually walked up the ladder and grabbed his gold medal for the win. Winner: Kurt Angle.
Angle got on the mic while sitting on top of the ladder, and said he didn’t need to use the ladder as a weapon, because he is a weapon. Angle said he could beat Michaels in a Ladder match without breaking a sweat. Angle then said we would go back to 1989, and they showed the Rockers entering the ring at Wrestlemania V, which was Shawn Michaels’ first Wrestlemania appearance. Angle said that Marty Jannetty was the backbone of the Rockers, and that he taught Shawn Michaels everything he knew. Angle said he arranged to face Marty Jannetty in a match next week, and that Jannetty would teach Michaels how to tap out.
The Dirty Harry spoof with the Undertaker was shown.
Josh Mathews interviewed Big Show and Joy Giovanni. They replayed Big Show and Akebono going face to face in Japan last month. Mathews said that Akebono has challenge Big Show to a sumo match at Wrestlemania. Big Show said he accepted the challenge, and would be happy to face Akebono. Mathews pointed out that Show had never been in a sumo match. Big Show said he was going to beat Akebono at his game, and prove he is the only giant in WWE.
The Wrestlemania lineup was reviewed.
Carlito was wandering the back looking for the Undertaker. Torrie Wilson came up behind Carlito, scaring him. Carlito said he was going to have to go to the ring and just call out the Undertaker. He started muttering in Spanish and walked off.
The Christy Hemme-Playboy video package from Raw was shown.
Carlito Caribbean Cool came to the ring to call out the Undertaker to answer Randy Orton’s challenge. Carlito said he had looked everywhere for the Undertaker, and he needed an answer from him, or he would lose his job. Carlito, scared, respectfully asked for the Undertaker to come out and give him an answer. The lights went out, and Undertaker made his entrance. Carlito asked for an answer, and Taker grabbed him by the throat. Taker said that many have tried to make a name for themselves at Wrestlemania at his expense. Taker said Randy Orton, like them, would Rest In Peace. Undertaker then gave Carlito a tombstone piledriver, and posed in the ring.
Backstage, JBL was talking to Orlando Jordan about how they would win all the gold tonight. Jordan asked about John Cena. JBL said he hired security to watch all the doors, and all they had to worry about was winning the tag team title.
The video package on the 2005 inductees into the WWE Hall Of Fame was shown.
They announced that there would be a contract signing on Smackdown next week with Randy Orton and The Undertaker.
WWE Tag Team Champions Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio vs. John Bradshaw Layfield & Orlando Jordan. Guerrero and JBL started off, with JBL shoving Guerrero in a corner, and Eddie responding with a slap before punching JBL down. JBL hit a shoulderblock, then a second, but Eddie responded with a pair of armdrags. JBL rolled to the floor to regroup, then reentered and tagged Orlando. Guerrero poked Jordan in the eyes and tagged in Mysterio, who took Jordan down with a rana for a two count. Guerrero tagged back in and applied an ankle lock, then dropped an elbow across the leg. Guerrero tagged in Rey, who dropkicked the leg as Guerrero held it up. Jordan came back by raking Rey;s eyes and stomped him in a corner. Jordan pounded Rey and tagged in JBL, and the two hit a double shoulderblock. JBL went for a boot to the face, but Rey ducked it. JBL tried for a powerbomb, but Rey punched it into a seated senton. Rey tagged in Guerrero, who hit a slingshot somersault back splash. Rey pulled JBL throat first across the middle rope. The Bashams tried to run in, and as the referee kept them out, Guerrero choked JBL with the tag rope. Rey tagged back in and kicked at JBL’s leg, but JBL poked him in the eyes. Jordan tagged in and worked over Rey with punches in a corner. Rey came back, floating over the top rope to hit a shoulderblock between the ropes, then giving Jordan a springboard senton. The Bashams got on the apron to distract the referee, and JBL ran in to give Rey a boot to the face. Eddie chased JBL from the ring, and the referee ordered the Bashams to the back as they went to commercial.
Back from break, JBL was giving Rey a vertical suplex, then followed with a fallaway slam. Orlando took Rey on the floor and rammed him into the ring apron, then tossed him back in to JBL, who whipped Rey hard into the corner, back first. JBL did it again into the opposite corner, then applied a bearhug. Rey punched out of it and tried to crawl between JBL’s legs to make a tag, but JBL grabbed him and tagged in Jordan. Orlando dropped an elbow for a two count. Jordan pounded Rey, who fought back with kicks. Jordan put Mysterio in a bearhug, but Rey boxed Jordan’s ears to escape. Jordan went for a whip into the ropes, but Rey put the breaks on. Rey tripped Jordan into 619 position, but was too beat up to do the move. Guerrero grabbed Jordan from the ring apron, but the referee broke it up. JBL grabbed Rey from the apron so Jordan could hit a kick. JBL tagged in and set up Mysterio for a superplex, but Rey punched JBL away and hit a tornado DDT.
Rey made the hot tag to Guerrero, who cleaned house on both opponents with clotheslines and dropkicks. Eddie sent JBL from the ring, and set up Jordan for a 619. Rey went for the 619, but JBL, from the floor, held up a chair so Rey’s legs would swing into it. Rey crashed to the floor, and the referee disqualified JBL and Jordan at the seventeen minute mark. Winners via disqualification: Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio.
The Bashams ran back out, and joined Jordan and JBL in a four on two beatdown of Mysterio and Guerrero. John Cena ran in from the crowd, steel pipe in hand, and hit JBL. He powerbombed one Basham, and tossed one onto the security guards that came down the aisle. Cena then gave Jordan an FU as JBL escaped into the crowd with his title belt. Cena glared at JBL in the crowd as the show ended.
