Sunday’s mean a lot to me because when I’m not doing predictions for a pay per view, I get to just kind of throw out my thoughts on basically anything that’s on my mind. So today I want to talk a little more about Rock and the situation with WWE, the latest rumor involving Hulk Hogan having a match at Wrestlemania a thank you to JBL (yeah that’s right a thank you to Bradshaw), and a Smackdown main event being taped here in Chicago, but first Rock and his feelings about Vince and the WWE.
Last week in one of my columns I had reported that the latest about Rock and WWE was that Vince felt terrible about Rock’s contract expiring, apologized to Rock and was getting things together to get Rock back in WWE. Well that seems to have been false, and that’s why I do like to use the word “supposedly” or this is the latest rumor because unless it’s not out there from WWE or Rock then you don’t know what to believe. This past week Rock did a few interviews on radio and television and in Rocks own words, WWE and Rock are not in negotiations, he hasn’t talked to Vince in 6-8 weeks, that he WILL NOT be at Wrestlemania, and he was disappointed and pissed by the whole situation. I’ll tell you this one caught me by surprise because the other rumor seemed to make so much sense, with Vince upset and doing all he could to get Rock back. While I know Rock isn’t going to ever be a regular on WWE programming, I still believe that Vince needs to sign him even if it’s just for a few appearances a year. The majority of the fans worship this man, but also Rock needs to be part of wrestling to keep his movie career going. Just remember Rock is good for WWE; BUT WWE is also very good for Rock so here’s hoping it all gets taken care of the right way.
All you Hulksters out there get ready because here’s another big rumor. The latest has Hulk vs. Hassan. Now if this is true, what a great way to get Hogan in a match, and this is a perfect match to give Hassan and Daivari more heat. First I think Hogan definitely deserves to be in the WWE Hall of Fame, that’s a given, and while I’m not a Hogan fan, if this match does happen I’m fine with it as long as it’s kept short. This way the Hogan fans can see their hero and blow the roof off the place. Just think with Hogan there, Piper’s Pit with Austin, Wrestlemania will definitely have that very special feeling and special atmosphere. And just think what this can do for Hassan and Daivari. These guys already have plenty of heat, but put an Icon like Hogan in the ring, and Hassan will be part of Wrestlemania history. Again this is just a rumor, one that I will definitely keep checking on.
Finally, it’s not often that I’m wrong; okay it is often that I’m wrong, and boy was I wrong about Smackdown’s WWE champion JBL. I mean how was I to know that when he won the title last June that this guy would turn out to be such a great heel? I have to thank JBL for making his character such a treat to watch and listen too. This is a man that tagged for many years with Faarooq and the sad part was that these two were more fun to watch out of the ring as the APA playing poker, drinking beer and telling jokes. Once they hit the ring their matches were average nothing more than average. Then Vince got this bright idea to push Bradshaw which I believe had to do with Brock Lesnar walking out on the company. The walk out found Vince in a bind and desperate to find a replacement and who better than JBL? Let me tell you when JBL won back in June I was livid. I thought how the hell could they give this guy the WWE title? Trust me I was so angry I thought about not watching Smack down, yeah a boycott was my way of saying get that belt off of him, and do it NOW! As the months went on JBL hung on to that title by beating Taker, Booker, and Eddie I would think my God what is going on why is he still the WWE champion? Why? But you know what? I’m quick to knock someone but very slow to realize when someone is doing their job so well. And JBL has proven that he is very deserving of the title. JBL has made his character not only funny but he gives his character a lot of depth. When JBL talks you listen, you can’t help but listen because the majority of his promos are fun to listen too. His mic work has been outstanding, and when he wrestles he puts his heart and soul into his matches especially pay per view matches. In my wildest dreams I never thought JBL could pull this out but he did, he’s done a sensational job and totally won my respect. So JBL thank you for proving me wrong.
Okay very quickly as I said at the beginning Smackdown is coming here to Chicago April 12th. Last night during the Bottom Line my friend and yours Mark Lloyd announced that the main event will be a fatal four-way title match with JBL vs. John Cena vs. Big Show vs. Kurt Angle. Now there is a reason I’m bringing this up, a lot of rumors are going around that Kurt Angle is retiring after Wrestlemania, and while the card could change, Kurt’s name being brought up made me feel like he’s not going anywhere. So it’s on to Raw which will be in Flair country, so how will the fans react to Bastista? Will Kurt Angle be back to torment Shawn Michaels? And what about the ladder match with Chris Jericho, will Eric Bischoff name the rest of the guys who will take part in it? With four weeks until Wrestlemania, you can bet that Raw will be on fire tomorrow night, at least I hope so.
