You take a guy that is so over and put him in the main event at Wrestlemania. Add his opponent a man that’s held the WWE title for almost 10 months. This man was nothing more than a mid carder if that and a part of a tag team. Put the two together and you get the ingredients for a feud that came off brilliantly last night. John Cena and JBL stole the show last night and those two and a few other guys made Smackdown a decent show.
John Cena opened Smackdown with what I thought was THE best promo he’s done in a long time. He didn’t do one of his worthless raps, no this time he did something extremely outstanding, Cena put the fans over. That’s right he put every single wrestling fan over by talking about how he was a fan. A fan that saved his money to buy tickets and tee shirts and make signs. Cena’s job was to make the fans everything and JBL’s wealth mean nothing. It was just a super opening and listening to Cena talk this way and hearing the fans react really got to me. Cena set up his feud with JBL for Wrestlemania so well and he did it without being a rapper, he showed off I guess you would say a “regular” side of him and it worked so well. Cena also called JBL a coward for ducking him and giving Orlando Jordan the U.S. title match against him later in the show. As I said this was a great opening, it didn’t drag at all, just perfectly done.
So Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio took on Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak for the Tag Team Titles in a good match. Even though Jindrak and Reigns didn’t exactly end on a happy note last week after their loss to Eddie and Rey they seemed to be on great terms last night. That is until they lost again, and this time even though Luther started it again it was Jindrak that finished things off. And this time, the fans seemed to be getting into their feud a lot more than last week. By the way, the Albany crowd was a good one. They were basically hot throughout the show, and as I said the fans seemed to be enjoying the Jindrak and Reigns scuffle. I kept waiting for Kurt Angle to step in but just like last week he was a no show, which kind of surprises me since these two guys are always with him. Maybe next week there will be some more fall out between these two, and Jindrak will be out and Reigns and Angle will stick together. There were two small backstage segments, one with Dawn Marie challenging Michelle to a match. Dawn was throwing her weight around as THE top dog in the women’s locker-room, and the other match was with my guy Carlito and Theodore Long. This segment I liked better. Cool who was all smiles quickly turned those smiles into a big frown when he was told by Long to shovel the snow outside the arena. Cool was pissed and left speaking Spanish under his breath. Granted this wasn’t the segment of segments but it keeps Carlito on TV and he gets to continue his smug little act which I enjoy so much.
I don’t mean to come off like a bitch and like I know it all because I don’t, but I’m telling you it’s time for Heidenreich to leave. Booker T worked a lot harder in this match then their match at No Way Out, but Heidenreich still looked so bad out there. I found it hard to stay focused on this match; I totally lost interest in it. You know what? Big deal Heidenreich makes freaky faces and grunts, that doesn’t make him worth watching in the ring at all. I pray that these two don’t have their final rematch since they both have now been D’Q’d. Last night should be the last time and Heidenreich should be sent back to OVW. The Kurt Angle Invitational took place after Kurt beamed and bragged about what he did to Shawn Michaels on Raw. When the local guy came out hooded Kurt was so sure that he was Shawn, that he had that smug look on his face like no one could put something over him; however the guy was not HBK. No HBK was behind Angle disguised as a cameraman, and he then attacked Kurt from behind. A small brawl broke out to the fans delight and to mine as well. Now I realize that the when the cameras went off Monday night on Raw Shawn was in really bad shape, yet last night he looked like nothing happened to him. Now maybe I should be bugged by that but I wasn’t because HBK showed up on Smackdown and Shawn was going to get Angle sooner or later so why not let it happen last night?
Okay it was Big Show and Michelle vs. Dawn and Fifi, no I mean Renee Dupree. This match was a killer and not in a good way. And I’m not going to condemn Michelle for looking in experienced out there because she is. The only one looking good in this whole thing is Dawn Marie. Finally she’s being used and coming off pretty good as the bitch of Smackdown. JBL was next and just like his nemesis, John Cena, he gave a terrific promo trashing Cena. I found it to be a little long but it still worked. JBL has come so far and he came through last night making a nothing out of a Cena. As I said with this promo and Cena’s promo earlier in the show, this feud is coming along beautifully. After the break JBL and the Bashams were leaving and Orlando Jordan planned to join them. JBL told him to stay and if he didn’t beat Cena for the IC title Jordan would be out of the cabinet. Didn’t you all just know that JBL wasn’t really leaving he would show up during the main event? Yeah that was a no brainer.
How great was it to see Chavo Guerrero set up the Eddie vs. Rey match at Wrestlemania? Chavo the instigator got things going with Rey by making Rey wonder if Eddie was really a loyal partner. According to Chavo Eddie has not been too pleased with Rey since Rey has defeated Eddie a few times. Chavo’s best line was not original but definitely perfect for this segment. He left telling Rey that Eddie keeps his friends close but his enemies closer. I’m glad this match is on its way to being set up and I’m very glad that Chavo was used to make it happen. And, it looks like it’s going to be Big Show vs. Sumo wrestler, Akebono at Wrestlemania. This match I’m not sure about, I really want to see how things will go in the next few weeks with Show and Akebono.
I’m going to say right off, the main event with John Cena vs. Orlando Jordan was okay nothing great. Truthfully it didn’t come off as a main event. I would have put this match on at the end of the first hour. I not quite into Orlando and I think many of the fans that were there felt the same way. Cena lost thanks to JBL and the Bashams interference. And Jordan as the U.S. title I kind of question that too. I need time to see how all of this plays out. Anyway, see JBL came back and along with the Bashams did all they could to end Cena’s U.S. Title reign. Okay so the main event was average but Cena and JBL still made their feud HOT with their promos. Smackdown definitely had some strong segments making it a good show because I definitely want to see more of Cena and JBL and definitely more with HBK and Kurt, and I can’t forget about the trouble Chavo started so the show succeeded in making me want more.
Okay I’ll be back on Sunday with some rumors, the latest with Rock and a few a few other thoughts, so I hope you will check that out. Oh and did I mention Wrestlemania 22 will be here in Chicago? Oh yeah I did, now you see what my husband and son have to put up with for the next 13 months.
