The Calling (#1) – Paul London, JBL, TNA & ROH
Ah yes, welcome to the first ever edition of “The Calling”. But fear not you are in for the ride of your life. For those pencil necks out there that aren’t aware this is what was once the “Professor’s Cutting Edge”. Needless to say the Professor is gone but I have emerged triumphant. I would like to take a second and apologize for the lack of columns from yours truly over the past six months, but due to things happening in my family and in school I had to take a sabbatical. But now I am back. You may also notice that I am not on nearly as many sites as I once was. This is because in order maintain my energy I am dedicating myself to those few loving sites that deserve me (and the ones that a lot of people visit) Anyway let’s get going.
First thing that needs discussing on this day is the Reign of Paul London. Please do not let this be a pre-emptive celebration. His title win is going to happen there can be no doubt. All the signs are pointing to yes. The man’s got a new gimmick for crying out loud. You have my word; beyond a reasonable doubt PL will win the belt from Chavo at Wrestlemania. But let us go deeper and discuss this new gimmick that he has chosen, or more likely he has had chosen for him. Pros and Cons. First the negative, that fur jacket looks absolutely ridiculous. Where did he get that? And those pants with what appears to be chili peppers on them aren’t really my favorite. But I got to be honest; I absolutely love the Ultimate Warrior frills on his boots. That makes sense considering the type of performer that he is. It makes every move, kick or flip, look amazing and flashy. No complaints in that department. And I can definitely buy into the whole insane gimmick. He should be, he has been constantly misused on that show and now he is doing everything that he possibly can to get that belt. Best of luck I say. And now his random stomps around the ring actually make sense.
Everyone has been talking about tag divisions so I am not going to bore you with that babble. I just want to say this. A good tag team is one that constantly works together, and has moves that work off of each other. And with that I give you the greatest tag team ever to close this segment: Road Warriors.
All right, I must admit that JBL is kind of growing on me. Don’t get me wrong I still hate his guts as we all should to all heels, but I actually think his gimmick is working for me. I’m in shock at what I am about to say, but I don’t want him to lose the strap at mania’. Don’t get me wrong I love Cena but I think that JBL should keep it for a little longer. Give Batista the HHH belt but keep the other on JBL. I think my liking of him has come out of his gimmick / stable, but much more his stable. I am a sucker for them I guess. It does so much to boost up the rest of the wrestlers in the stable. Honestly, would anybody care if there were an Orlando Jordan match if he wasn’t in this stable? I think not.
In case you haven’t figured it out I am not a huge RAW guy at the moment. It just doesn’t hit the spot and it is on at the same time as 24. When given a choice between the Jack Bauer and HHH good ol’ Jack wins out.
So let’s talk a little TNA. I just want to briefly say that these guys have a pretty good handle on this business. But it is not going to be enough. They have still yet to turn a profit. Not to seem negative but once (Panda Energy I believe?) pulls their funding they are going to be dead in the water. Which is why they need to buy Ring of Honor. They have some of the best wrestling out there. Not to get off track, but have any of you seen PL’s last match in ROH? It was against Samoa Joe, and it was brilliant. The match itself wasn’t the absolute best I have ever seen but the fan support was phenomenal. You could tell that the fans loved Paul London and that PL loved them. My respect for that man went through the roof when I saw that. Anyway back to TNA. They really need to act now in order to save themselves later.
I’m am going to leave it there for now, but fear not there will be much more on the way. I am hoping to keep this as a weekly column so look back next week. Also next week there will be a new improved feedback section.
Some Final Contemplations to Marinade on:
Am I correct in saying that the Road Warriors are the best Tag Team of all time?
Should JBL keep the Belt at Wrestlemania?
Will / should TNA buy ROH?
Yay or Nay on Paul London’s New Gimmick?
