Listen I have to say right now, Randy Orton and Christian put on one hell of a match last night. Giving Randy to Christian was THE smartest thing WWE could have done. By far this was the match of the night, this was a pay per view match and we were all lucky to watch it for free.
I loved Raw last night there were a few things that came off rather dull but the show had enough good segments that Raw came through. And those Cincinfatti fans? Okay I have to give that one to Simon Dean, probably the only funny thing he said all night. But they were dynamite; I think that they wanted to show the Japanese fans that they could be just as loud and fun. So props to them.
Okay let me get this off my chest with one question. What the hell is Hunter thinking? What is with his Lemmy from Motorhead look? I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Okay yes I find Hunter extremely appealing but after last night, I’m not pleased with his new look. I can only hope this is temporary. Judging from feedback that I have read on other sites I’m not the only one that feels that he looked like crap, and I have this feeling that the more negativity Hunter gets the more that awful look will stay. My 19 year old son thinks it’s the greatest look ever, and now he wants to have that look too. How lucky can a mom be? Now back to Raw. While the opening segment with Chris Jericho, Candice, Hassan and Daivari was okay, it’s obvious that Chris needs to get back into the heel mode. His responses to Hassan’s comments were not the strongest or funniest Chris has ever had. For the most part Hassan and Jericho’s interaction was written rather poorly but I will say that Jericho and Hassan gave us a pretty good match. Hassan put more into this than any other match that I’ve seen him in. So this match definitely made up for a weak Jericho Highlight segment.
So Hunter the guy with no hair on his chin and Ric Flair are discussing this thing about JBL showing up and that Hunter is already for him. JBL showing up on Raw spits in the face of Evolution; at least that’s Hunter’s theory. Hunter would take care of JBL, and this way Batista could take care Edge in their main event match. An okay segment but this is when Lemmy Helmsley appeared and I have to say I was a little to focused on that naked chin to get the true meaning of the discussion he was having with Flair. Roddy Rowdy Piper became the next wrestler that will be inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. Again I didn’t see Piper at his best but I do know from anything I’ve heard or read that this he is deserving of this. I missed and I still don’t know why I missed this, but I didn’t see Randy and Stacy’s backstage thing. All I remember was Stacy asking Randy out for Valentine’s Day, that was it, so I can’t comment on it. However I did pay attention to Batista (with my favorite air-head Maria right next to him) and Ric having a moment. Dave against was his cool self about JBL and Edge and again Batista just came off so well. And in my opinion Snitzky should kiss Shelton Benjamin’s feet notice I didn’t say ass? Shelton managed to take what could have been a really blah match and make it good, that’s right good. But from what I see of Snitzky, I just don’t care for his in ring work, as creepy and as aggressive he is on the mic, in the ring, he’s slow and just doesn’t put enough into his moves. Shelton worked extra hard to make this baby work. So all in all not a bad match.
WWE has two tag teams, William Regal/Tajiri and La Resistance, so again we had to sit through another round of these two going at it. In all fairness it was a good match, but I really wish that Vince would either dump this division or find some new guys to add to it, because I would love to think that after last night, Rob Conway and Sylvan Grenier will lose this gimmick and get something new going.
And as I said Christian vs. Randy was just off the charts. This match was the best thing that happened to Raw last night. I have always thought that Christian was something to watch in the ring, it was out of the ring that he started to get stale. But thankfully with this Orton feud Christian has made a super comeback, I just have to say that these two guys were Raw’s stars last night. Something else that appealed to me was first Eric Bischoff on the phone with Theodore Long talking about Batista’s future. I love the way they keep bringing both shows into this angle. And then Edge walking in and whining that’s it’s all about Batista, and after he beats Dave in the main event and JBL takes Batista out, Triple H will need a new opponent and that will be EDGE! Another fine performance by the man that thinks he’s left out of everything.
If Christian and Randy were the stars of last night’s show then not far behind is Trish Stratus. She was brilliant with her promo and her actions about Christy posing for Playboy. When Trish turned heel last year at Wrestlemania I was so not into her at all, but just like improving her wrestling skills she improved her mic work as a bitch and it’s a total pleasure to listen and to watch her. Now her counterpart Christy The Bouncing Diva is another story. While she definitely can do mic work it’s her actions that I could do without. I had really no problem with this segment because it was to hype next months Playboy. However, when I see the women’s champion calling out Christy it does bug me that Trish isn’t calling out, Gail Kim, or Nidia, or Jazz or Victoria or Molly, it bugs me because Vince just totally demolished the women’s division. Anyway a super job done by Trish. Kane vs. Simon Dean was far from great, but Kane added some very subtle humor to this so I won’t condemn the match. But I just feel that Kane needs to go to Smackdown and work with some different talent.
I think Shawn Michaels made it pretty obvious that he will be at No Way Out on Sunday maybe so he can antagonize Kurt Angle. I’m all for this, because we know that after Sunday it’s Kurt vs. HBK at Wrestlemania, a match that I would consider a dream match. I was very happy that Shawn in his own little way hinted about Sunday. It was Hunter again having a little one on one with Dave reassuring him that Batista doesn’t have to worry about JBL. But it was Dave that wanted Hunter to butt out, that he could handle Bradshaw, and as Dave left Hunter uttered those famous words, I have your back. Yeah right he has Dave’s back. The main event with Batista and Edge was next, and naturally Dave’s buddy Hunter walks out. The match was nothing outstanding, but it did what it needed to do. Edge didn’t lose, which was smart since he’s been on a losing streak of late, and the JBL angle just got bigger when Hunter took out the ref stopped the match and got Batista’s to focus entirely on the screen when JBL’s limo arrived. The idea having Hunter push Batista away just before the limo got Dave was good, it made Hunter look like the hero and how could Batista even think about going against Hunter at Wrestlemania. After Hunter came to the rescue, Batista and Triple H watched the limo leave and Dave declared that he will be on Smackdown this week alone no Hunter. Instead of Dave in charge of the mind games this week it was Hunter and Ric that took control and you just know next week when Batista signs the contract he’s going to have the last laugh, not Hunter. And with Batista announcing that he’ll be on Smackdown Thursday night what a great way to get the fans to check out the show. By the way who did drive that limo? Was it JBL? I say no I’m thinking it was none other than Randy Orton.
Okay so Raw wasn’t prefect and I did imitate Edge with all my bitching but I still enjoyed the show. Now with Batista on Smackdown Thursday and Kurt dealing with HBK this could be a show you don’t want to miss. Also I just read that at the No Way Out press conference today Batista was invited to be at that show. So between Smackdown and No Way Out the Smackdown brand is getting a much needed shot in the arm. One last thing, could someone tell me what racist comments Lawler made last night, I didn’t catch a thing, but from what I’m seeing he’s really angered a lot of fans.
