Smackdown for February 10th was taped in Saitama, Japan at the Saitama Super Arena.
Eddie Guerrero vs. Kenzo Suzuki. Eddie made his traditional lowrider entrance. Hiroko did not come out with Kenzo, since she was preparing for her match later in the show. The fans chanted “Eddie” and “Kenzo Sucks” before the two locked up. Eddie went to the eyes to start, but Kenzo hit a clothesline in the corner and stomped Eddie down. Guerrero fought back with right hands, but Kenzo hit a clothesline then choked Guerrero. Kenzo hit a kneedrop for a two count, then applied a nervehold. Guerrero fought up, and Suzuki yanked him down by the hair. Guerrero elbowed out and slugged Suzuki to the mat. Guerrero backdropped Kenzo, then hit the Three Amigos vertical suplexes. Eddie went to the top rope, but Suzuki crotched him and went for a superplex. Eddie headbutted Kenzo off the ropes and hit the frogsplash for the pin at the four minute mark. Winner: Eddie Guerrero.
Backstage, Kurt Angle talked to Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak. Angle said he would defeat Rey Mysterio tonight, and go all the way to the finals of the WWE Title Contenders tournament, since Jindrak & Reigns had made sure there wasn’t a winner in the Undertaker-Dupree match last week. Luther bragged about his prison experience, and said he wasn’t scared of the Undertaker. Angle said that Reigns & Jindrak would win the WWE Tag Titles from the Bashams tonight.
WWE Tag Team Champions Doug & Danny Basham vs. Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak. Jindrak and Doug started off, with Doug tackling Jindrak after a slap and pounding him on the mat. Reigns kneed Doug from the apron to give Jindrak the advantage. Luther tagged in and hit an elbow drop, then stomped and pounded him in a corner. Reigns whipped Doug hard into a corner, then did it a second time. Jindrak tagged in and hit a vertical suplex, then dropped a pair of elbows and did the Rick Rude hip swivel. Jindrak then missed an elbow drop, but tagged in Reigns before Doug could tag out. Reigns hit Doug with an elbowdrop. Danny came in to break up the cover, and Jindrak and Reigns double teamed him after tossing Doug from the ring. The lights went out at the four minute mark, and when they came back on, Undertaker was in the ring. Reigns shoved Jindrak towards Taker, and ran from the ring. Undertaker hit Jindrak with a clothesline, Snake Eyes, a boot to the face, and a chokeslam. Reigns stared at Undertaker from the aisle, and Taker stared back, making a slashing motion across his throat. Result: No Contest.

Backstage, Kenzo Suzuki asked Hiroko if she was ready for her match with Torrie Wilson. Hiroko said she was ready to tear off Torrie’s kimono. Suzuki seemed to like that idea, smiling and daydreaming.
Elsewhere backstage, JBL complained to Amy Weber about having to face Big Show in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match at No Way Out. JBL pulled out a tranquilizer gun and said he planned on knocking out Big Show and then injuring him. He handed Amy Weber the gun, and she accidentally shot JBL with it. Amy and Orlando Jordan tried to hold up and quickly fading JBL as they went to commercial
Torrie Wilson was shown backstage getting ready for the Kimono match.
Akebono was introduced to the crowd, sitting at ringside.
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Sho Funaki vs. Chavo Guerrero. Chavo armdragged Funaki at the start, with some fans chanting for him, while the majority were behind Funaki. They traded headlocks, headscissors and covers, and stalemated. Chavo went for a handshake, and gave Funaki an uppercut, then kicked and stomped him on the mat. Chavo hit another uppercut and a back suplex for a two count. Chavo applied a half nelson with a crossface, but Funaki elbowed out. Chavo hit a knee to the gut for a two count. Funaki fought back with punches to the gut and hit some chops. Chavo responded with a forearm and whipped Funaki hard into the corner. Chavo played to the crowd, getting boos. Chavo applied an Octopus variation, and Tazz talked about Antonio Inoki, who popularized that hold. Funaki escaped and dropkicked Chavo. Funaki hulked up and hit some punches, then a flying forearm. Funaki backdropped Chavo, hit a bulldog and got a two count. Funaki went for a monkey flip, but Chavo placed him on the top turnbuckle. Funaki punched Chavo and went for a tornado DDT, but Chavo blocked it. Funaki hit an enzugiri for a two count, then went to the top rope. Chavo stopped him, and hit a top rope superplex. Both men were down, and Chavo crawled onto Funaki for a two count. Chavo hit a backbreaker for a two count, then set Funaki on the top rope for another superplex. Funaki threw off this attempt, then hit a Tornado DDT for the three count at the eight minute mark. Winner: Sho Funaki.
Backstage, Carlito Caribbean Cool was bragging to a police officer about his attempts to get Theodore R. Long removed as General Manager of Smackdown. JBL stumbled over, acting drunk from the tranquilizer. JBL said Carlito’s head looked like a Chia Pet. Orlando Jordan showed up, saying he had been looking for him. JBL said he was talking to the “raccoon from Puerto Rico”. Jordan said he had to go wrestle John Cena, and he didn’t want JBL going anywhere. JBL agreed, and Jordan walked off. JBL then went and argued with an inflatable Godzilla.
The latest Wrestlemania movie spoof commercial was shown. This was a spoof on Basic Instinct, with Stacy Keibler playing the Sharon Stone role, and Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Christian played the investigators. Yes, she did uncross her legs, and unlike Basic Instinct, Keibler was wearing underwear. At the end of the spot, The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young came in, and Mae spread her legs. Thankfully, the camera shot was from the other direction for her.
Wrestlemania Contender’s Tournament First Round Match: John Cena vs. Orlando Jordan. Cena’s U.S. Title was not on the line in this match. Cena got on the mic before the match and did a rap on Orlando Jordan, making various “OJ” references. Jordan went on the offense early, but Cena hit a hiptoss and fisherman’s suplex for a two count. Cena hit a series of elbows in a corner, but ran into a boot by Jordan. Orlando hit a clothesline, then a series of jabs. Jordan worked over Cena with a rear chinlock, then hit a back suplex for a two count. Jordan hit a swinging neckbreaker for a two count, then started pounding Cena’s back. Jordan hit a back elbow for a two count, but Cena fought back with a slap, an elbow, a punch, a headbutt and a clothesline. Cena hit a back elbow and a shoulderblock, then a side slam. Cena hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle fistdrop, then pumped up his sneakers. Cena hit the FU and got the pin at the five minute mark. Winner: John Cena. Cena will face Booker T in the semifinals of the tournament next week.
Jordan came backstage to apologize to JBL for losing, but he wasn’t there. The Bashams and Amy Weber showed up, and they realized they had lost track of JBL again. They went off in search of him.
Torrie Wilson vs. Hiroko, Kimono match. To win, you had to disrobe your opponent. Torrie tried to shake hands before the match, and Hiroko threw powder in her eyes. Hiroko choked Torrie against the bottom rope and kicked her. Hiroko went for another kick, but Torrie caught it and hit a clothesline. Hiroko rolled to the floor, and Torrie hit a baseball slide. Torrie rammed Hiroko into the apron and tossed her back into the ring. Hiroko pulled up the back of Torrie’s kimono, but Torrie shoved her in a corner and hit some chops. Hiroko shoved Torrie and screamed in her face, so Torrie poked her in the eyes. Torrie gave Hiroko an airplane spin, then pulled off her kimono at the one minute mark, leaving her in her bra and panties. Winner: Torrie Wilson.
Hiroko ran off to the back. Torrie teased leaving, then took off her kimono and waved to the crowd in her bra and panties. As Torrie was leaving, JBL stumbled out with the inflatable Godzilla. JBL had the Godzilla shake hands with Torrie, then he headed to the ring. JBL fell down at ringside as he tried to toss Godzilla over the top rope, and they went to break.
Back from commercial, JBL was talking to the inflatable Godzilla (actually, it was just a generic dinosaur, not Godzilla), saying he wasn’t scared of it, and it was just a “lizard on steroids”. JBL said Big Show was like a dinosaur, like Barney. JBL kept talking drunkenly to the inflatable dinosaur and took off his shirt. JBL took off his belt and whipped the dinosaur, then took off his pants, revealing pink boxer shorts. The Big Show came out, and JBL fell on his rear end. JBL said he was going to leave and “let the two dinosaurs talk”. JBL managed to get his pants back up. Show just stared at him, when JBL suddenly “recovered” and downed Show with a clothesline, revealing the whole tranquilizer thing to be a ruse. JBL beat Show with a cowboy boot as the Bashams and Orlando Jordan came out. They held Show for a chairshot by JBL, but Show moved out of the way. Show chokeslammed the Bashams and Jordan, as JBL took off down the aisle.
After the break, we saw that Big Show had cut a promo in the ring about having JBL trapped in the Barbed Wire Steel Cage at No Way Out. Big Show then pointed out Akebono, saying he was Japan’s equivalent to the Big Show. Show challenged Akebono to step into the ring, and he did. They went chest to chest, then Big Show put out his hand. Akebono shook hands with Big Show, then they raised each others arms.
Kurt Angle approached Rey Mysterio backstage, telling him not to get his hopes up, and calling him a “jumping bean”. Mysterio said people underestimate him and see him as a joke. He said that tonight, the joke would be on Angle.
A vignette aired on the WWE’s trip to Japan, with comments from Torrie Wilson, JBL, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.
Wrestlemania Contender’s Tournament First Round Match: Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio. Angle took Mysterio down with a double leg takedown at the first lockup, but Rey made the ropes. Angle went after the arm, applying an armbar and driving his knee into it. Angle switched into a hammerlock, then a waistlock, but Rey elbowed out of it. Angle grabbed a waistlock again, but Rey went into an arm wringer. Angle reversed it, but Rey whipped him into the ropes. Angle hit a shoulderblock, but Rey leapfrogged him, slid under his legs and hit a series of punches to the midsection. Rey kicked Angle in the gut and grabbed a headlock, then hit a spinning headscissors when Angle shoved him into the ropes. Rey hit a drop toe hold and went for a 619, but Angle ducked away from it. They circled each other, and Angle took Rey down with a side mare. Angle went for covers with a side headlock, but Rey got to his feet. Rey shoved Angle into the ropes, but Angle hit a shoulderblock and went back to the headlock. Rey battled up again, but Angle hit another shoulderblock. Angle went for a sunset flip, but Rey rolled through and hit a dropkick to the face. Mysterio kicked the downed Angle, then hit a series of punches in a corner. Angle reversed a whip into the corner, then hit an overhead belly-to-belly suplex as they went to break.
Back from commercial, Angle had Mysterio in a rear naked choke with a bodyscissors. Mysterio broke out with elbows, then dodged a charging Angle and pulled down the top rope so Angle would fall to the floor. Mysterio went to the top rope and hit a flying bodypress on Angle on the outside. Back in the ring, Mysterio missed a charge in the corner, and Angle hit a released German suplex. Angle was bleeding from the lip. Angle gave Mysterio a backbreaker for a two count, then covered him two more times for two counts. Angle stood on Mysterio’s stomach, pulling on the top rope to add pressure. Angle hit a series of knees to the back, then put Rey in a corner and gave him shoulderblocks to the back. Angle hit a back suplex for a two count. Rey threw a kick at Angle’s leg, but Angle responded by driving his knee repeatedly into Rey’s back, then applying a modified camel clutch. Mysterio elbowed out, but Angle took Rey down with a waistlock, then rolled him into a pinning position three times for two counts. Angle maintained his waistlock, but Rey elbowed out. Angle hit some forearms to the back, and whipped Rey into a corner. Rey jumped onto the second rope and went for a moonsault, but Angle caught it and rammed Rey back first into the corner. Angle hung Rey in the Tree of Woe, then hit a series of shoulderblocks. Angle backed up and charged the corner, but Rey say up and Angle went shoulder first into the ringpost. Angle fell out of the ring, and Rey delivered a baseball slide into a headscissors on the floor. Angle rolled back into the ring, and Rey hit a springboard senton and followed it with a spinning bodypress for a two count. Angle charged into a Mysterio boot.
Rey ran into an Angle tilt-a-whirl slam, but reversed it into a DDT for a two count. Mysterio dropkicked Angle in the back, putting him in 619 position. Rey went for the move, but Angle caught his legs and applied an ankle lock. Rey rolled out of it, pushing Angle into the ropes and then rolling him up for a two count. Angle came back with a clothesline. Angle hit a German suplex, but on a second attempt, Rey rolled into a bodyscissors, putting Angle in 619 position. Mysterio hit the 619, then went for a springboard rana, but Angle caught it. Angle tossed Rey over his head, then went for an Angle slam, but Rey blocked it and armdragged Angle. Mysterio jumped up and grabbed a rana for a two count. Mysterio charged Angle, Angle tossed Rey over his head, but Mysterio landed on the top rope. Mysterio jumped onto Angle and twisted into a victory roll for a two count. Rey hit a springboard bodypress for another two count. Rey hit a pair of forearms, then went for a bodyscissors, but Angle blocked it and hit the Angle Slam, then pulled down the straps. Angle applied the ankle lock. Mysterio tried to twist out of it, but Angle held on, and added a leg lace to it. Mysterio tapped out at the twenty minute mark. Winner: Kurt Angle. Angle advances to the finals of the tournament at No Way Out.
