First thank you all for the unbelievable response I got about my Triple H column on Sunday. I say this a lot, but as of today I received over 140 responses since I posted it on Sunday and the emails are still coming in. Thank you all for caring enough to email me and send me your opinion about what I wrote and about Hunter.
Okay last night’s Raw in Tokyo was just brilliant. I want to applaud the fans that were there, they were so into everything that they were watching. They were polite enough to sit and watch each match, yet when the time was right they knew just when to cheer and applaud. They were a very nice group of fans and they really added to the super show that WWE put on last night.
I have a close friend in Japan that attended the show, and she emailed me with such enthusiasm that I just knew that Raw had to be good. And she was totally right. Okay my only complaint during this entire column has to do with Victoria. I will get to that right now and the rest is just all good. What does it say to you when they have this so called fashion show which consisted of Christy, Maria and yes Victoria. You all remember Victoria the former women’s champion? You know she is the woman that played a psycho so well. A woman that can wrestle. Well with hardly any women left in the women’s division, Victoria was sent off to participate in this segment and she looked so out of place that it really ticked me off. Her spot should have gone to Candice or to Stacy. Watching Victoria in that ring just standing there broke my heart. She didn’t even talk; it was like they just picked someone out of the audience and stuck her into something that she had no idea about. I was extremely disappointed, and it just angers me that Vince felt it was so necessary to dump something so strong like the women’s division. I have nothing against the eye candy that Vince hired but he should never have demolished the women’s division like he did. Okay enough bitching.
Raw was dynamite last night. From the moment that Eric bragged about being powerful and respected in the industry to his announcing the matches for the show you could just feel the electricity in the arena. And then when the first match got underway with Chris Benoit taking on Chris Jericho you just knew that this show was going to be one hot Raw. Benoit and Jericho’s submission match was one of the best of the night. Jericho and Benoit gave their all and it was no surprise to me having Benoit beat Jericho with his crippler cross face since Jericho beat Benoit a few weeks ago. I’m just wondering if one of these guys will turn heel and that last night’s match was a tip off to a feud that is on its way. But as I said this was one very good match. How did you like the BS with Hunter and Flair debating if Batista going to Smackdown is the right thing? After all Hunter did a lot of thinking and he and Dave at Wrestlemania could have a big match, so maybe a Smackdown move isn’t the best thing. And there’s Ric going right along and you know this is so bogus and that’s what made this segment so entertaining. Okay I promised a reader Lucy that I would talk about her favorite Christian. Last night Christian was so on so terrific that I could have watched him do a lot more mic work. It’s nice to know that here in the States Christian has his peeps, but in Japan they are his jeeps. My God I could not stop laughing. I will be the first to admit that I have tired of Christian’s character but there’s not doubt in my mind that when it comes to mic work this man shines. I say let him do more of his shtick on the mic and give him someone other than Jericho to feud with and this guy could be on his way. And a new opponent for him might have started last night with Randy Orton. Watching Christian talking to a Japanese reporter and then having the reporter try to get loose from Christian to interview Randy was great. The reporter wanted no part of Captain Charisma because he’s was so annoying. That got Christian a little heated and he started with Stacy. I especially loved Christian claiming that Randy was no legend killer because he never beat Christian. Talk about a character with a massive ego? As I said Christian was definitely on his game last night. So Christian set up a Tomko/Orton match for later in the show.
Hey did I say last week that Maven was on a roll with a winning streak? Well that came to an abrupt end and I mean abrupt when Batista defeated Maven in under a minute. Nothing much to say about this one except that Batista continues to dominate, and knows how to pump up the crowd. After the win, Batista saw Big Show on the screen being interviewed by Josh Matthews. Like JBL the week before Big Show put Dave down and had some interesting things to say about Batista, naturally like JBL’s comments a week before Dave was not thrilled. All of this continues after the break with Dave questioning Eric about the videos. Bisch was as stunned as Batista and has no idea who is behind them. With that Eric tells Batista that he is aware of what Theodore Long offered him to go to Smackdown, so Eric really makes Raw the show of shows by saying it’s the premier show along with the World Title. Another very good segment with us all wondering what is going through Batista’s mind, a World Title or the WWE title?
Okay can you repeat after me? HALLELUJAH HALLELUJAH, La Resistance lost the tag team belts to Tajiri and William Regal. Let’s hope this time that the belts stay off of Robert Conway and Sylvan Grenier, and let’s also hope that Tajiri and Regal defend these titles more than once a month. I liked this match a lot, not only because of the loss for La Resistance but because Tajiri was home and he won it with his family and friends there, that all worked for me. Props to Ric Flair, he came through again against Shawn Michaels last night. I was very happy with the way he wrestled a few weeks ago against Randy Orton, and Ric kept things going by looking very sharp against Shawn. Shawn and Ric put on some match last night. I loved the fans really getting into Ric and wooing with him. Each guy did what they are known for and this was not only a good match but extremely fun one to watch. As much as I disliked the fashion show, I will give it to Simon Dean for some of his one liners. I have to say he had me laughing more than once. For instance like calling Lawler the Burger King, and making fun of Sumo wrestlers until he saw Japan’s very own Akebono. Once that man stood up Simon backed down immediately, very funny stuff. Simon made this funny, and Christy made it painful for him by low blowing him. So maybe a crappy fashion theme but Dean made it all work.
The fun continued when Hunter and Ric Flair again had a change of heart and decided that after Big Show’s comments about Batista, Dave should go there to shut all their mouths up. And as WWE champion along with Hunter they could control the business. Oh my God I love all of this so much the more Hunter and Ric talk the more Dave is showing that he’s no dummy. Ric even said that they would be bigger than DX or the 4 Horsemen. The payoff is that Dave told them he would have to think about it, and for a split second that answer wasn’t what Hunter wanted to hear. However Hunter then smiled and went right along with his buddy Dave. This future feud is just going well so far the creative team hasn’t screwed a thing up. Edge did another amazing job as the frustrated heel wanting that title so badly. I loved his remarks about how he’s being overlooked because people find talking about Batista going to Smackdown or Hunter in the Braveheart commercial more important. Edge is just amazing me more and more each week with the way his character has progressed.
Randy vs. Tomko. This wasn’t a bad match in fact I liked it. I was wondering if Randy would lose to Tomko due to concussion problems, but even though Randy seemed to be out of it toward the end of the match he did win and I think that was the way to go. While it would have made sense for Tyson to beat Randy due to passing out or not being totally with it, a Tomko loss by Randy just keeps Randy looking strong out there and that’s how it should be. So Randy took more abuse to the head and had to be helped by the refs. I’m still enjoying this angle but I don’t want it to go on much longer because then I’m afraid that it will start to lose its newness.
Edge and Hunter gave all of us a fantastic main event. Edge proved that he definitely can handle the top tier guys and Hunter proved that’s he’s there to please the fans and the two of them worked their asses off. It was a super match. And as good as this was, Batista and Hunter ended things with a bang. Edge was just about to finish Hunter off with a Spear, but it was Batista to the rescue and he stepped in just in time to hand Edge a Spine buster, which in turn helped Hunter set Edge up for the pedigree and victory. As Batista helped Hunter up and they hugged things really got good. As Dave raised Hunter’s hand in victory Batista started staring at that belt. And I mean staring at it non stop. Once Hunter finally got himself together he turned at the right time only to see Batista eyes burning a hole in that belt. Watching Hunter’s reaction is priceless. Talk about worried? Oh yeah Hunter has a stunned look on his face. I mean this is Hunter’s belt how dare Batista even think about going for it? I’m telling you this was a fabulous way to end the show. Raw gets 10 out of 10 from me and that goes for all the fans that attended the show. And now I’m really looking forward to Smackdown. Yeah you read that right. I read the spoilers and it is rumored that the fans were more into this show than Raw. So I definitely want to see it. Okay how many of you know that Brock Lesnar is suing WWE for having him sign non-compete clause which is in effect until 2010 in his contract? This was signed when he gave a few weeks notice that he wanted out of the WWE to play football. The story is all over the sites so check it out. Also Amy the diva on Smackdown quit. It seems like the trip to Hawaii, Japan, Korea and Alaska was not a trip that turned out good for her. Again this too is all over the sites. Okay I will be back on Friday to talk about Smackdown a very strong Smackdown at least I hope that’s the case.
