Cancer is Killing Me
Dying is something we are all doing. Each breath we take is one less breath we have until the grim reaper unleashes the cold steel of his scythe on our vulnerable flesh. There is nothing we can do to avoid the unavoidable. Unfortunately, living leads to the end of our lives.
Fortunately how we go can be decided upon by us.
If we don’t want lung cancer, we can choose to not smoke. A massive heart attack can be avoided by saying no to Big Macs.
But what the hell did wrestling do to deserve this cancer? This human sized cancer known simply as H……H……H.
When the WWE jilted the USA network at the alter and ran to the greener pastures of TNN/Spike TV the Attitude Era was in full swing, wrestling was still popular and HHH was only a one time champion. But living leads to death and the life of the HHH character has killed more than any disease in the history of the world.
This cancer has ravaged the premier undisputed champion (Jericho), the youngest champion in history (Orton) and even the most decorated heavyweight champion of all time ( Flair).
And just like a cancer HHH has destroyed what might have been before it got a chance to be. Examine this quote attributed to HHH just last week:
– Booker T and Rob Van Dam aren’t main-event players because they are missing that piece of the puzzle that allows big wrestling fans to connect with them.
Way to get guys over HHH. If I am not mistaken, Booker T headlined a Wrestlemania with HHH. If am not wrong again, fans booed lustfully when HHH defeated Book to retain the title. Again, if I am not mistaken, Booker T had a HUGE following heading into Wrestlemania XIX where everyone was doing Spin-a-roonies every chance they got. Do you know what Booker T was missing HHH? A good opponent. The only piece of the puzzle that HHH has that the others are missing is that little jigsaw that he hides in his pants. Oh, wait I know how HHH would respond to that:
He says he is a scapegoat for the internet to bash and being married to the boss’s daughter (Stephanie McMahon) just encourages that. Comments that he tries to do his job to the best of his abilities and it makes him mad when people say he ‘holds people down.
A cancer sees radiation treatment as a nuisance, too. I am not offended. Before I discovered the internet I was saying the same things, HHH. It’s just that no one heard me before. Scapegoat? Yeah right, RVD is a scapegoat. Tazz is a scapegoat. Booker T is a scapegoat. All of the wrestlers that have come from WCW and ECW in recent times are the victims of innuendo and malicious booking. The same way a poor diet is blamed for the spread of cancer.
It is what it is though.
I love wrestling much like a tobacco junky loves the sweet, cancer filled pull off of a fresh cigarette. Unfortunately, it too is killing me.
Since Wrestlemania XIX, I have not ordered a pay per view by the WWE. On that day, I quit my bad habit. I will not let cancer kill me, I resolved. It seems many others have, too. PPV numbers are at all time lows. The ratings for Raw and Smackdown are less than impressive. Vince McMahon defends this as he cites “trends” in sports entertainment. Yes, cancer patients also say that there are “good days” and “bad days.” Before their cancer, everyday was a good day. But the cancer has changed their health trend.
Ric Flair has emerged as the biggest ass kisser of all time. The 16 time champion is nothing more than a suit wearing, bump taking, greased hair having, cheerleader for a champion that has nothing to brag about. Career destroyed.
Randy Orton hitched his wagon to the HHH train as well. Much like the “cool” kids in school, HHH was too much for the third generation superstar to resist. Instead of developing a strong character, Orton went for the gold, youngest champion ever. Congratulations. Oh wait, shortest title reign in the last few years. Good job. By the way Mr. Orton how have those rematches turned out?
Chris Jericho is being victimized much like the lungs of a smoker. He cheated with the eternal champion’s girl. You see your lungs don’t like it when you step out on oxygen for smoke. HHH does not like it when you play the interest of his wife, whether for real or not. Your last one on one title shot was when Mr. Jericho?
Booker T’s bout with cancer is terminal. HHH has spoken and that’s the way it shall be. RVD’s fate is sealed as well. Who else has suffered in recent times? Edge and Kane are a couple to name a few. Scott Steiner has come and gone. You see battling with HHH in the ring does something. It deprives your in-ring character from growing. This love in we are all having with Batista will pass when he realize that he has had one, yes one singles match at a pay per view. Who has Batista beaten one on one in the past 6 months that makes you say, wow, this guy is good?
Cancers deprive young, healthy cells from growing. But before cancer takes out the babies, it takes out the old weak cells first. Before I let the cancer get a hold of my life, I have kept my $34.95 per month in my pocket for the last 22 months. That’s $768.90 that WWE has not gotten from me. I have not gone to an MSG wrestling event since their January house show in 2002.
When it is all said and done, HHH will be known as the champion of an era that no one remembers.
The cancer is not killing me. It is killing the WWE.
