A lot has been written over the past couple of days about the shocking announcement made yesterday – the UPN and WB networks are to shut down, and merge into a completely new broadcast channel – CW. There was concern whether or not SmackDown!, whose contract expires in September of this year, will remain on the air due to the merge, as the two channels were to keep their top shows.
It was officially confirmed today that UPN has worked out a deal to have Friday Night SmackDown! air on the new CW network for at least two seasons. There was even an article in Daily Variety, detailing the situation.
