It’s Sunday so it must be my day to talk about a bunch of different things. I want to talk about one hell of a WWE commercial, then two hot rumors going around. One about the Rock and the other has to do with a main event Wrestlemania match. And this rumor is definitely one I hope is true. But first let me get right into one commercial that I could watch all day long. Well maybe not all day long, but the more I see it the more I love it; I never get tired of it.
I have been waiting to get this out for so long but as usual I always forget. The Royal Rumble commercial has got to be THE funniest and best ad WWE has ever done. I can’t get enough of it. I go around the house singing it and in fact my husband the non wrestling fan joins in with me. Entertaining aren’t we? I’m telling you this commercial is gold. Watching guys like Triple H, Kurt Angle, RVD and so many others dressed in early 60’s mode, and really getting into the singing is absolutely hysterical. I heard that I missed the making of this ad today on Experience. I would have loved to have seen what went on behind the scenes. Who ever came up with this one is a genius. The only complaint I have? They should have panned on each guy so all of us could have seen close ups of each one. The ad is done so quickly that we missed out on each wrestler being focused on. This is one commercial WWE should have given more time too. But I’ll settle for the ad that we see, because it’s just so damn good.
Now for the first rumor I want to get into. The Rock is upset with Vince and the WWE. That’s the latest going around. The reports have it that Rock’s contract is almost up and Vince hasn’t contacted Rock about a new one. When I first read this I was shocked, but then I thought it about it and I could see two ways you could go with this. First, let me take this rumor as fact. Could it be that because Rock is showing up less and less on Raw that Vince doesn’t want to dish out a huge contract to him? Could it be that Rock and Vince have not been keeping in touch and maybe Vince and Rock aren’t seeing things eye to eye? If this rumor is true it makes me wonder if the Rock and Vince have a very shaky relationship. I started thinking that with Rock’s appearances becoming less and less maybe Vince doesn’t feel a contract worth millions is worth it for a guy that is only there maybe twice a year. On the other hand why wouldn’t Vince want Rock back? After all whether you like the guy or not, he certainly brings the crowds to their feet when he shows up. And granted even though his appearances seem to be getting less and less a Rock’s return usually is a ratings winner. To so many Rock is the WWE. So I’m going to go with this. I firmly believe that Rock will be at Wrestlemania. I can’t see Rock and Vince parting ways, I don’t think Vince will let this man go, Rock still brings a lot to the fans and Rock will be part of WWE for a very long time.
Finally, I hope this baby turns out to be true. Could we be seeing Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels for Wrestlemania? Or is this nothing more than a rumor? You have no idea how much I would love to see these two guys go at it. And I’m thinking with Shawn and Edge having a match at the Royal Rumble, this Angle/HBK thing just might happen. What a great break it would be for Kurt Angle to be facing Shawn Michaels. And for Shawn? How cool would it be to see him with someone that he has never wrestled before? This would definitely be a win win situation for all the fans and for WWE as well. I really think it’s obvious that Kurt is not physically 100 percent, the Kurt Angle Invitational and his lack of wrestling a match proves that. So with a rested Kurt Angle I can’t see the match being anything but outstanding. I guess after next week’s Royal Rumble we will get an idea just how true this one is.
Okay so it’s on to Raw tomorrow night in Oklahoma City. I have a feeling Steve Austin will be there since his press conference with Vince is being advertised for the show. And I can’t wait to see Hunter’s face when Batista takes up Eric Bischoff’s offer and wins his Royal Rumble qualifying match. With this being the last Raw before next week’s pay per view, it should be a must see show. I will be back on Tuesday with my Raw thoughts. I just want to add something that has nothing to do with wrestling. I grew up watching Johnny Carson and the tonight show. In fact I would do all I could as a kid to make sure I could see it from my bedroom, without my parents knowing. I am saddened by his death and even though he left the Tonight Show 13 years ago, I don’t believe he was ever forgotten and he will always be thought of as an American Icon.
