It’s been pretty quiet on the wrestling scene over the weekend, and even today, which is why I didn’t find it necessary to update. The idea of this section being daily probably won’t work, so I’ll drop the “Daily” from the title. After all, there’s barely any news in wrestling on weekends!
In what is great news for WWE, SmackDown scored a high 3.8 final cable rating this past Thursday night on UPN. That came in with a 5.8 share. This is a solid figure, and SmackDown’s best number in months!
There’s already some backlash as to what the plugged-on-RAW Austin press conference is about. Hold your horses. It’s not an announced returned for WrestleMania 21 (although I wouldn’t be surprised if that does happen, and they do announce it) but it’s to officially announce that WWE and Austin have signed a deal for Steve to do three movies for WWE Films.
During the weekend, La Resistance won the tag team titles at the Winnipeg house show, as announced on RAW. Regal actually tagged with Coach (which they didn’t say on RAW), but Coach turned heel on him, and Regal never did tag him in. Another interesting note came from that same show, as Flair was supposed to face Michaels. That was changed to Flair and Batista vs. Michaels and Orton and lots of the fans were unhappy. Of course, Michaels got booed, and during a heavy “You Screwed Bret” chant, Flair got on the mic and cut a promo on Canada. He said that Michaels was one of the greatest he’s ever wrestled, and that Hart was a “Flair wanna be.” I’ll let you figure that one out by yourself.
Absolutely nothing else of importance has been happening since the last time I updated. At house shows, they’re doing Royal Rumble qualifier matches, but you guys get the info on who wins on TV anyway!
I should be back with more notes tomorrow, as Tuesday is usually a newsworthy day.
