I made a big decision today. It’s too hard for me to work and then make sure I’m home in time for Impact. It’s too much rushing for me. So I will start watching Impact when it’s shown at midnight. I’m a late night person and that time slot suits me perfectly. I feel bad because I haven’t watched the show in probably a month if not longer. Okay enough of that how about last night’s Smackdown? There was enough to make me like it and naturally there were some things that I didn’t like at all.
Let me get rid of the things that I could have done without first. I found the whole “What happened to Joy” angle pathetic. I am not impressed with the push Joy is getting, but I will say that her counterpart Amy can at least act. She has really come through with the scripts she’s been given. But watching Joy and her “love” Big Show it a little too much for me to take. Also Teddy Long investigating Joy’s disappearance again was just a waste of time. The only highlight for me during this was my boy Carlito Caribbean Cool doing his smug routine while interacting with Long. Other than that the Joy disappearance was crap. And poor Theodore, before he got into the Joy thing, Heidenreich came in worrying and complaining about this match with Taker at Royal Rumble. Talk about a dud segment, the way Teddy dismissed him said it all. Heidenreich and I do mean the character is nothing. They never should have made a rematch with Taker. It should have ended the last time they had a match. All John does his act weird and do run-ins. The fans have never seen this man wrestle on a weekly basis to even know what he’s capable of. It’s time to reinvent Heidenreich. I don’t know about you, but the more Kenzo Suzuki speaks the harder it is to understand him. Last night and even last week I found myself tilting my head like I have a hearing problem. I am having the hardest time trying to figure out what he is saying. Hiroko is a little better to understand. I think it’s time to shed the Geisha look and let Hiroko get involved with the other divas. That doesn’t mean that she needs to do mic work but she has a nice personality so I say work with that. Also his match against John Cena was so fast that by the time I got into it, it was over. Since Cena returned we aren’t getting much of a look at him. I’m guessing it’s ring rust and he is slowly getting back his rhythm. But this match wasn’t worth the hype that started a week before.
That’s it the rest is all good. The opening match, the fatal four-way tag team match for the tag team titles was awesome. You had a very injured RVD and Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero and Booker T vs. Mark Jindrak and Luther Reigns vs. The Bashams. This was a fantastic match. My match of the show. I’m sure you all noticed a limping RVD and the latest that I’ve read is that he has a partially torn ALC and a torn MCL. He did that MCL injury at a house show last week. Also surgery is recommended but it’s reported that he doesn’t want to take time off so he will wait to see what his MRI shows. As I said this was a hell of a match and the injury angle on Van Dam was done well and having the Bashams win really made sense since they are with JBL’s cabinet. My only complaint and it’s a small one I didn’t think switching Doug and Danny made sense. Maybe I missed something but Doug seemed fine and I couldn’t follow why Danny switched with him. But this was a four star match.
And finally the Kurt Angle Invitational was worth watching. I loved the hometown hero Roderick Strong getting the first shot at Kurt. A very self confident Strong told Angle he didn’t know if he could beat him but he knew he could do something else, and that was give Kurt a nice hard slap in the fact to start things off. My God I laughed and things only got better. Strong made it anything but easy for Kurt. Kurt won but it wasn’t the typical squash that Kurt’s being doing. Although this was fast it was by far one of the bright spots on Smackdown. Now, I might not have liked the Cena/Suzuki match but the Chain Gang is right there with their man, Cena. I think it’s great that Cena hits the crowd as he leaves and stands with some of them. I have a feeling the Chain Gang is going to grow in numbers week after week.
It’s too bad that Vince wasted our time on the unimportant angle of “who kidnapped Joy?” I say that because Funaki the Cruiserweight Champion and Nunzio wrestled a very hot match. But they were not given enough time to let it continue. I can’t say enough for the nice job Funaki has done as the Cruiserweright Champion. But we all know that the Cruiserweight division is not that important to Vince. He likes “BIG GUYS” and Nunzio and Funaki and all the others in that division don’t fit that description. It’s too bad Heidenreich didn’t get in there then maybe Vince would have let the match go on longer.
I enjoyed JBL receiving the man of the year award from the Florida Agricultural Group. But this should not have been the main event. I could have seen this starting off the second hour, but I hated seeing it take the main event spot. JBL played his part well soaking up the attention. It was all very funny but as I said it doesn’t compare to a strong main event. And I think this was done to show that Joy was hidden in his limo trunk and Big Show attacked JBL for kidnapping Joy. But it was really Angle, Reigns and Jindrak that were responsible. Can you tell the excitement is just too much for me to handle? Hey you know what I noticed? When we found out Angle and his guys were involved, Mark Jindrak didn’t seem to fit in. I really had high hopes for this guy, but I like him less and less each week. Something is wrong with him or the way he’s being used but I’m not pleased with him or with Angle’s stable. They just don’t click.
Now I’m laughing because I just put out more negativity and I didn’t plan too. I did like Smack- down there really was enough for me to enjoy. Okay are all you Steve Austin fans ready? Next week on the Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Channel, he will be making a guest appearance along with Vince McMahon. I know I cannot wait to see the show. I don’t believe a day has been mentioned yet, but I will keep checking. I have read that Austin and Vince keep in touch and have a good relationship so I’m think that maybe something will be said about Austin showing up soon. I will leave you with that and hopefully be back on Sunday.
