Hello one and all!
With the new changes at TBL, we now seem to have modernized and upgraded the site to a completely different place! However, we did keep the TBL spirit and unique point of view alive. It seems like there’s only one thing missing — NEWS! Since I stopped writing N & A reports, I’ve gotten more feedback from you all that you miss the news fix on TBL! It seems to be the one thing we’re missing. Hence, the creation of this little section that I will post on the Syndicate Board – Daily News Fix! In here, you won’t find the analysis that N & A used to offer, but more of the news reporting. I will throw in a line or two of personal opinion, of course, but I’ll try my best to keep it clear! Here we go…
Daily News Fix for Thursday, January 13
— ROH regular, Roderick Strong, was the man that Kurt Angle defeated in this week’s Kurt Angle Invitational. Apparently he left a strong impression on the WWE agents and higher-ups. I must say he was pretty impressive, and this was probably the best Angle Invitational segment we’ve had so far. The crowd was said to be into the match, which helped Strong get noticed.
— WWE got some good news in the ratings today, as the RAW scores became available. The show scored a 3.8, off of hours 3.7 and 3.8, with a 5.5 share. This is up from last week’s 3.4. As Monday Night Football stops airing, it’s time for these numbers to rise. The 3.8 is definitely a solid score.
— WWE Velocity ended up doing a 0.9 (1.0 share), while WWE Heat did a 0.9 (0.9 share) rating this past week. WWE Experience, in its very un-experienced time slot, ended up with another score of 0.5 (1.3 share).
— If you haven’t heard, the current plan for the No Way Out PPV in February, a SmackDown event, is to have a main event match of The Big Show vs. JBL, for the WWE Championship. The interesting thing here is the stipulation — a first-ever barb-wired cage match. The show is planned to take place in PA, where the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission has banned the use of wrestling “weapons,” such as barbed wire during wrestling matches. This was due to several indy organizations in the area who truly took things to the extreme, no pun intended. CZW and XPW were the most noisy one.
— In what can only be good news, Pat Patterson was one of the many people backstage at SmackDown this past Tuesday. The importance of this was that he took part in the pre-show production meeting, where many believe the Rumble match was discussed, or at least Patterson’s involvement in helping the company book it was. Hopefully that holds true, since it is Patterson’s creation after all, and he’s proven what he’s capable of in the past. Also at the SmackDown tapings were Hulk Hogan (who talked with Shane McMahon, probably about appearing at WrestleMania 21), The Dudley Boyz, Bryan Adams, Fidel Sierra, Mideon, and Big Dan from Tough Enough.
— From the “Where are they now?” files, RAW Diva Search contestant, Carmella DeCesare was sued, and acquitted of assaulting Jeff Garcia’s ex-girlfriend. The NFL quarterback is Carmella’s boyfriend. Carmella will be on probation for an year, and will have to pay a $150 fine, as well as serve 24 hours of community service. MSNBC reports on the verdict here — http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6815294/.
— WWE will be doing another “Super” house show, other than the previously scheduled Alaska show, on their way to TV tapings in Japan. The event on 2/1 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena will see the same line-ups as the Alaska show (featuring two RAW vs. SmackDown matches: Undertaker and Kane vs. Heidenreich and Snitsky, as well as a SmackDown vs. RAW Battle Royal).
— For those interested, you can check out the promotional poster for Rock’s new movie – Be Cool – at this link: http://www.blackfilm.com/20040625/features/becool_poster.shtml. The poster featured Rock with the other stars of the movie — John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Danny DeVito, Vince Vaughn, Cedtric the Entertainer, and Christina Milian among others.
— Chris Jericho did an interview with betweentheropes.com, that many had anticipated for days. (I’m not sure why.) He did talk about some interesting things, but was mostly there to promote the new Fozzy CD — “All That Remains.” Jericho also mentioned the ECW DVD, and his work for the company, about his success in WWE, and how pitching ideas to creative works, among other things. If you’d like to hear the interview, go to http://www.betweentheropes.com.
