First, I want to apologize for not writing about Impact today. I did it again, I forgot to tape it. I had to bring one of my dogs to the vet for her shots, and the idea was for me to tape Impact and come home and watch it. But I was in such a rush I totally forgot about it. I’m upset because I missed Tuesday’s show due to work and I wanted to get back into it. So now I’ll have to wait until next Friday. But I did watch Smackdown last night and it was by far a complete dud. I feel there is one major star that is hurting the show, not intentionally, but I’ll get into that. Also I have some Paul Heyman news to share with you.
I will give credit where credit is due and say that RVD/Rey Mysterio and Torrie vs. Renee Dupree/Kenzo and Hiroko was good. Not because of Torrie and Hiroko but because of the guys. I will say I’m really tired of RVD and Renee Dupree constantly wrestling each other but as tired as it gets for me they do have very good chemistry. This was by far the match of the night. The other match that rated highly with me had to be Eddie Guerrero and Booker T taking on the Bashams. Yes the co-secretaries of defense for JBL. I liked the match very much and I especially liked the tension between the Book and Eddie. It’s a great way to heat things up when they face Taker and JBL at Armageddon for the title. And I don’t know about you, but Carlito Caribbean Cool is one of the best characters that Vince has brought up in a very long time. I can’t say enough about him. The guy oozes with charisma and I see a very bright future for him. How sweet of Undertaker to show up for more than 3 minutes and wrestle in a main event match. This wasn’t bad but I have to be honest with you the show dragged so badly that I remember very little of what went on.
Unfortunately the highlights were so minimal; things were totally off last night. Having the three remaining Tough Enough guys dress in drag and come on to Bob Holly was no more than a waste of time. It’s amazing how Holly beat the hell out of Renee Dupree and supposedly got a ten thousand dollar fine although that isn’t certain, he jobbed in a dark match, and last night he had to put up with this segment. See my punishment would have been to fire Holly’s ass. So big deal he was propositioned by drag queens. Wow I’m sure that really will make Holly think twice before he goes off on another WWE wrestler. This was a crappy segment, and in now way does it give the fans or the company any clue on what these contestants are capable of. I would love to know what happened to Spike, Chavo, Billy Kidman and Paul London. Instead of being entertained by any of these guys in matches the time has now been given to watching a few guys have nothing but lame tasks to perform to show that they are deserving of being signed by the WWE. I don’t get the logic here.
I’m a little tired of watching Charlie Haas come out and get taken out before he you can blink an eye. But I’m starting to think that his knee is far from ready to get back to wrestling. I’m guessing in order to keep the Jackie/Charlie/Dawn Marie angle going an injured Haas is better than no Haas at all. But Kurt Angle is the man I want to focus on. It hit me last night while watching the Kurt Angle Invitational which by the way lasted maybe 30 seconds that Kurt must not be in any shape to have a real match. I am starting to believe that something is just not right physically with Angle and because he has had so much time off and spent months as the Smackdown GM due to injuries they are keeping this invitational going so he has TV time. I have also noticed at house shows that Kurt appears but doesn’t wrestle. Just like the GM role this angle is killing Kurt. It’s making a nothing out of him and because of this it’s hurting Smackdown. I am also unimpressed with Angle’s stable. While Luther Reigns has had some good mic work watching him and Mark Jindrak along with Angle is like watching paint dry. This stable is lackluster, bland and just plain unappealing. Smackdown needs the Angle of old, you know the Angle that gives his all in the ring and makes you want more.
You don’t realize just what Angle offers until you see a side of him that just doesn’t cut it. A healthy Kurt is what Smackdown needs. And no way am I blaming Kurt on Smackdown’s downfall. It’s the lack of strong feuds, good writing and the Tough Enough contest that is hurting the show along with Angle not in a major feud and wrestling. Smackdown seemed to have made a strong comeback a few months ago but it didn’t last long. I’m hoping that this streak of mediocre shows ends soon. And now the latest about Paul Heyman. He was relieved of his writing duties this afternoon. As of now from all I’ve read no one knows why but something has been going on for a while and it finally came to a head. As of now, Heyman is still with WWE but I just wonder for how long. Now it will be interesting to see how the show comes off next week. Okay I’ll be back on Sunday and maybe there will be more about the Heyman situation to talk about.
