I promised that I would give you the latest rumors of the week. There is one BIG rumor that’s picking up some steam, but the others are just as interesting. One rumor is about height, there’s one about tough enough, and the last one is about the possibility of Monday night wars starting all over again. So let me get right to them.
I guess Vince never heard the saying that good things come in small packages. I say that because the latest rumor has it that Vince only wants to sign guys that meet his BIG GUY requirements. They must be at least 6 ft. tall weighing in at 225 pounds to have a chance to get their foot in the door. Now when I first read this I thought it was just hysterical. I can’t believe that Vince would even consider such a thing. Let’s face it, it’s the cruiserweights on Smackdown that add to the shows and the guys in the X-Division at TNA that makes their shows worth watching. So why in the world would WWE reject anyone under 6 feet tall? Then the more I thought about it, it hit me that BIG is in for Vince, he seems to have a thing for height. He brought in Matt Morgan last year. Here’s a guy that didn’t make it in Tough Enough because of an injury, and all of a sudden he’s on Smackdown thrown into a main event pay per view match. Or look at Heidenreich, he couldn’t make it on Raw, so it was sent down to OVW then brought back up to Smackdown and immediately thrown into a major storyline with Undertaker. And how can I forget about Gene Snitzky. A guy that seemed to be a jobber for Kane on Raw, but the jobber became a major player and even managed to “severely injure” Kane. I guess this rumor might be factual, I’m hoping it’s not. There are too many guys out there that are less than 6 feet but can bring a lot to the sport. I would hate to think that Vince has shut the door on the smaller guys, because so many of them offer so much, and not bringing them in would be a total disgrace.
They have the fans voting week after week for a winner in the Tough Enough contest on Smackdown, yet the rumor is that these guys have already been signed to a developmental deal. Again this is only a rumor, but I kind of wonder if this again isn’t factual. I mean we all know that even though Chris Nowinski didn’t win on the first Tough Enough, he was still signed. And Matt Morgan is another guy that didn’t make it on the show but again he was signed. And if you noticed on Smackdown this past week, Michelle, Joy and Amy all voted out of the diva contest are now with the company. I wouldn’t doubt it for a minute that the Tough Enough finalist all have signed a contract. And if they have then why bother to have a contest in the first place? Especially when it takes away from Smackdown. Well as I said there’s no proof that any signings have taken place. I guess after the contest ends we will find out if the winner was the only one that is working for WWE.
This is big, yeah if this rumor turns out to be true this is big. As many of you TNA fans know The Best Damn Sports Show spent a few days heavily promoting TNA. Now they are waiting to see if TNA was a ratings hit. If they were there is a good chance that Fox Sports Channel will put their show on Monday nights. It would run for 90 minutes starting at 8:00 est. The last half an hour would go up against Raw. Could this start a Monday night war again? That I don’t know but I do know I would be very happy to watch the first hour of the show. I would still go right to Raw believe me I’m not giving up Raw for Impact, however, the advantage of Impact on prime time means no longer would I have to see Impact on Friday afternoons. And with the show lasting 90 minutes they certainly could fill that time up very well with all the young talent they have. And last be not least Vince would have some competition. He’s gone too many years with no one breathing down his neck. Just knowing there’s another company on prime time could make things very exciting.
Okay it’s on to Raw. And I see Chris Jericho in charge of the show tomorrow night. I also see him having a title match with Hunter. Now I read that Chris Benoit, Trish, Lita, Val Venis and Hurricane Helms will be in the Mideast. But they will show all of them during Raw. With Maven, Randy Orton and Jericho remaining live on the show I’m sure things will still be as good as last weeks show, maybe even better if Jericho is the GM of the night.
