Welcome all to the most electrifying column in Sports Entertainment. I’m The Professor, cross the threshold and enter into my lab.
Wow, seems like this column never gets out there anymore. But alas, it is back again. I’ve been getting into the groove of school and trying to fit the Edge into my life and it has returned. So much has happened since the last time I wrote that I don’t even know where to start. So let’s get things rolling.
First, I must say that I love Tivo. I can only look back in shame at all of the times that I have watched commercials in the past. But most importantly it allows me to catch TNA. I live in the Philadelphia region that carries impact on Comcast Sportsnet. They do these crazy things like show it at 1:30 in the morning. As of late they have had it on at 2:15 in the morning. Personally, I need my sleep. If not for the ease and convenience of Tivo I probably would not have gotten addicted to TNA. And that’s a fact.
I know this seems like a big advertisement for Tivo, but what can I say, Tivo makes the world a better place.
Honestly though, I must say that TNA has been superb and is definitely going to give WWE a run for its money. I will admit that at first I was a doubter, but there is no longer any doubt in my mind. I have been watching Victory Road in great detail several times, and each time the Williams vs. Styles match takes my breath away. For lack of a better word, it is simply Phenomenal. AJ is the greatest athlete in wrestling today. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.
But there was one thing I didn’t like about the PPV, we did they keep saying that there wrestlers used to work in the WWE or WCW? Who cares? I guess they were trying to make it a point that everybody was converting over to the better brand, but still, it was getting a little annoying.
Vince McMahon was right, WWE is entertainment and TNA is wrestling. But he is wrong when he says that they will not be competition. The moves that those X Division wrestlers do are simply amazing. But the kicker is that there are people in the WWE that can do moves like that. Take for example Paul London or even Rey who has been called the greatest cruiserweight in the world. I can only hope that they will see that people are watching TNA for their X wrestlers.
Speaking of Paul London, I can’t decide on an issue with him. Forget what he’ll be doing when he comes back from injury, should he quit and get over to TNA? It would be stupid for the WWE to fire him, as giving TNA an amazing athlete would be ridiculous. But they said there would be no more releases for three months, so if London quits now, his no compete clause will expire they same time it would if he was fired.
Now, there are those in the Internet wrestling community that are not so happy with Scott Hall and Nash taking up lots of airtime. (Linda I am talking to you) But please, it is really not that bad. It is star power that TNA needs to get noticed by everyone. The X Division will never get buried because that is TNA’s soul life force. What TNA needs to do is make impact a two hour show. If you do that you can have the vignettes with Hall and Nash and still have time for all the others.
Since I am on the topic of Hall, I was wondering how he is doing. It may just be me, but he did not look to be in the greatest of shape at VR. He definitely put on some weight. But, my issues with Nash are far greater, look; I didn’t like you in the WWE, so why should I like you now that you have gone over to another company? Could just be me.
That about raps up this short edition of the Cutting Edge. Make sure you send me feedback, as I will be adding a feedback edition to my column in its next publication. The best responses to the Final Contemplations will be featured in the column. And general feedback is always welcome. Send it to davidstephens88@hotmail.com
Final contemplations to Marinade On…
– What was the best match of Victory Road?
– Should TNA keep mentioning WWE and WCW with regards to their wrestlers?
– What’s a better plan for London quitting WWE or staying with them?
– Will the Vince ever realize his cruiserweight division’s talents?
– Are Hall and Nash hogging too much mic time on impact?
– Should impact become a Two-hour show?
-till later
