Last night was Smackdown’s last episode before the Survivor Series. And today was Impact’s first episode since their Sunday pay per view, Victory Road. I have some very negative things to say about what I saw with Impact, and some really nice things to say about last night Smackdown. I have to vent right now about Impact. And I really hope that this doesn’t turn out to be a pattern for what was a very good show. So hang on.
I am disgusted, appalled and totally fed up by what Impact featured today. I read the spoilers this week and I shouldn’t have been so surprised, but I thought maybe things would be better on TV than in writing, well I was so wrong I really thought I was watching WCW’s Nitro or Thunder because the great young talent that TNA has like AJ Styles, Chris Sabin, Michael Shane, Kazarian, Sonjay Dutt and so many others are getting buried by Scott Hall, Kevin Nash DDP and Randy Savage. Although he’s no longer working with TNA, rumors have it that negotiations are back on where Savage is concerned. Working with them or not the people with TNA found it necessary to show Macho Man’s quick appearance from Victory Road twice during the hour. There is nothing more sickening then watching Kevin Nash and Scott Hall come out with very little effort and steal way too much time from the show. Kevin’s promo went on and on and it stunk. The fans seemed totally uninterested about anything he had to say. And watching Scott Hall laugh at the unfunny comments that Nash popped with and Jeff Jarrett being a part of the Kings Of Wrestling (dear God there’s a real name grabber) was like the final years of WCW where Nash showed his disdain for the company Jarrett just hooked on to guys that used to be so popular with the fans and Hall just stood there doing nothing but his famous HEY YO! I’m furious that the atmosphere has totally changed with this company. And making things worse the matches were done so quickly that it was a total waste of time to even put wrestling on the show. I will say the only exception was the main event which was got a least a few minutes to give the fans something to cheer about. Then there was Diamond Dallas Page running in later to take care of Raven, was a total dud and the fans reaction to him as he came into the ring summed it up very well. I pray that this isn’t a sign of what’s to come.
I know TNA doesn’t rely on me to keep the company going, but I will watch next week and if this trend continues then I’m done. It was painful for me watching WCW programming a few years ago and I’m certainly not going to feel forced to watch history to repeat itself. Impact was a total disappointment this week. As far as last night’s Smackdown the only miserable segment was with Torrie Wilson and the Tough Enough contestants. How the hell are fans supposed to vote for the best when the task for these guys was to have Mae Young jumping over them? This is not a dig against Mae or Moolah, this was just total crap and Torrie Wilson again proved that Torrie should never EVER have a chance to speak on Smackdown again unless there’s major improvement. This girl can’t act to save her life. I figured with such a miserable opening Smackdown would stink but excluding the garbage I just mentioned Smackdown was one super show. Things did a total turn around when the first match of the night was Chavo and Rey Mysterio vs. Billy Kidman and Spike Dudley. This was a match full of action and just so upbeat that this is what set the tone for what was to come, not the horrible Tough Enough segment. Josh Matthews continued to get his push with some more abuse from Orlando Jordan backstage. While I don’t get why the Matthews push now right before a pay per view, I will say his match which was given to him by Theodore Long against Orlando got the fans so involved that you couldn’t help but enjoy watching this one.
The only downfall of this match? The Jordan/Matthews feud has definitely cooled off JBL and Booker’s feud and that’s ashame because things were going so well with these two. Again it’s like the WWE title means very little. I would have liked it so much better had the Josh thing been held off until the Survivor Series was over. Remember last year when Brock Lesnar’s team was filled sub-par wrestlers? You know Nathan Jones, Matt Morgan and A-Train. Well things aren’t that bad however; I’m not getting into this Kurt Angle stable with Reigns and Jindrak. While I still believe that Jindrak and Garrison Cade made a damn good tag team, Jindrak is so bland so blah that I am getting less and less interested in him when he comes out. Luther unlike Torrie Wilson can handle a mic well but in the ring something is missing. I feel that Angle has gotten stuck with two guys that just aren’t going anywhere, especially Jindrak. In their match against RVD and Eddie it was Eddie and RVD that made Jindrak and Reigns look good. Van Dam and Guerrero were outstanding AND Carlito Caribbean Cool did quite a COOL job sitting with Tazz and Michael Cole. Even watching his “guy” Jesus standing there worked, I truly enjoyed the way CCC performed during all of this. And I think we all noticed that he kept his left arm very still thanks to that injury he received last week from Bob Holly. I doubt he will have a lot to do Sunday in the ring and that’s kind of sad, since John Cena will be showing up to be on Guerrero’s team. I think the fans would really like to watch these two go at it again.
JBL came up with a very cryptic message last night. He said that if he loses to Booker He will leave Smackdown. Could that mean he’s going to Raw? I say no, but I found that statement extremely interesting. How great was it when Paul Heyman came out and started up with Michael Cole? I loved it when Heyman told Cole he was a wannabe JR. But even better was when Heyman shoved Cole into Tazz. That’s when Tazz went for Heyman, Heyman ran into the ring and Tazz followed. Heidenreich came out but that wasn’t going to stop Tazz and then the lights went out and Taker was standing behind Heidenreich and that was it. Just a big stare down. By far Tazz stole this one; just the thought of him hitting the ring was really exciting. I wish I could say that about Taker’s match Sunday with Hedeinreich. But I’ll talk about that Sunday. The main event with Big Show vs. Kurt Angle was a good one. Show dominated and Kurt made some humorous moves to try to get Show down. This was a short but fun match and similar to Raw both teams came out and went after each other. Only this time the heels prevailed. And like Raw, Smackdown definitely came through hyping up the Survivor Series. Sunday I’ll have my SS predictions posted. Don’t hesitate to send me your picks, I have already started to receive a few so please keep them coming. By the way Linda Miles the one that one Tough Enough 2 was released today. From all accounts she was causing a lot of trouble at OVW and definitely had an attitude problem. Okay I’ll be back on Sunday.
