Kevin Nash’s WWE contract is expected to expire on 12/31. There had been discussions of Nash and Scott Hall working the 1/4/04 HUSTLE-1 event being jointly promoted by Dreamstage Entertainment and ZERO-ONE, but according to a well placed Japanese source, the sides were unable to come to terms. As of last week, Nash had not been medically cleared to wrestle. Nash appeared on Montreal-based radio show “Between The Ropes” on 12/6 and said he would accept a non-wrestling role with WWE “if the money was right” and would look at options outside of the company (naming Japan) if they couldn’t come to terms. With less than a week to 12/31, there is no word yet as to whether Nash and WWE have come to any sort of agreement to continue their professional relationship.
WWE has begun contacting several former ECW performers regarding ECW footage, opening discussions in regard to using their likenesses on future WWE releases. A number of former ECW performers, including Shane Douglas and Joey Styles (who co-owns this website) have openly spoken about their belief that WWE does not have the right to use any ECW footage they appear in due to their issues with ECW management prior to the company closing. WWE purchased all assets of Extreme Championship Wrestling, including its video library, in bankruptcy proceedings earlier this year. The first commercially released ECW footage on a WWE DVD will be on the new Mick Foley DVD, which features matches with Sabu, Mikey Whipwreck, Terry Funk, and others. It is scheduled to be released on 1/20/04.
Former ECW star William “Chilly Willy” Jones will be returning to the Middle East tomorrow. Jones had been sent home for the holidays to spend time with his family and will fly back to Baghdad, Iraq to continue his service in the Armed Forces.
