Unfortunately another wrestler has passed away. Mike Lockwood better known as Crash Holly died yesterday. This death hit me a little harder then some of the others only because I knew Mike. By that I mean I watched him in the WWE from the time he came up until he left. It’s so sad to lose someone so young. My heart goes out to his family.
On to Smackdown and I have to say I didn’t like the show as much as I did last week. I found the show rather slow especially at the beginning. But there were some very good matches. I also thought John Cena was great. All in all a good Smackdown just not as good as last weeks. Let me go through the matches first then I’ll talk about the out of ring work.
The first match with Rey Mysterio vs. John Cena was good, but I have to admit I thought it would have been more fast paced. What really shocked me and maybe it shouldn’t have were all the Cena chants. Now here’s a “heel” wrestling against a fan favorite, Rey Mysterio, yet the majority of the fans were in Cena’s corner. There’s no doubt in my mind that Cena’s future in the WWE is very bright. Big Show vs. Bradshaw. This was a killer, and I don’t mean that in a good way. I found this match to be a total bore, it was by far the worst match of the night. But things picked up when Eddie Guerrero took on both of the Basham Brothers and put on an entertaining match. I enjoyed this one, and I loved the ending when Eddie did his trademark of turning things around for a win. Let me explain just what I mean. As the Basham’s did their “famous” let’s switch places routine, Eddie countered with his I’ll show you how to win routine. He took Shaniqua’s whip, first whipped Danny in the stomach, and as he went down Eddie then whipped the back of Nick Patrick. Danny got up, and Eddie immediately placed the whip back in Danny’s hand and Patrick thought it was Danny that attacked him. Danny tried to defend himself and then Eddie Schoolboy’s Danny for the win. It never gets old. The facial expressions on Eddie were so good, and it sure got the fans going.
And what’s with Chavo? He tells Uncle Eddie to win the match for him, for CHAVO? I would
say that very soon Eddie is going to have to put Chavo in his place. Now I don’t know if that’s going to be a feud that most of us want to see, but with Eddie in there I’m willing to give it a chance. Also I see the CAT is back. I can’t say this is a gimmick I’m cherishing, but I will definitely keep an open mind with his return. I can’t help but think that since Cat is from WCW Vince will do all he can to make this gimmick and Cat a total joke. Kind of like the way Kanyon as ended up, I hope I’m wrong, but I would say Cat’s return could end up a dud.
Tajiri and Nunzio vs. Ultimo Dragon and Jamie Noble was one match I can honestly say I liked a lot. It’s nice seeing Dragon on Smackdown more than once every two months. I read this on some site so I’m not claiming originality, but remember when Nunzio was Noble’s cousin? Well I guess we aren’t supposed to remember that, at least nothing was mentioned last night. Anyway a good match and I look forward to Noble vs. Tajiri at the Survivor Series I have a feeling this is going to be an outstanding match. Okay, while this is going on two things hit me. Will Dragon join Tajiri’s group? I’m thinking yeah, and I’m thinking maybe at Survivor Series when he screws Noble out of a win. Also with Nidia gone all this time, do you think she’s getting one major makeover? Again I’m thinking yes, otherwise why would they have her off so long? See my mind is always working no matter how wrong I am.
All right back to the show. The main event with Brock Lesnar, Nathan Jones, Albert and Matt Morgan vs. Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle was too long for me. I didn’t like this at all, except the last five minutes. That’s when life hit the match and things got exciting. Up until then it was slow going all the way. Part of that ending was John Cena coming out to take care of Lesnar’s guys for taking him out at the beginning of the show. Wow the fans loved it, and I thought it was a nice way to end the show.
Let’s look at John Cena. He came in to wrestle Mysterio for the opening match. He rapped anti Mysterio things and yet he had the fans in his back pocket. As their match is going on, Paul Heyman, Brock, Big Show, Jones and Morgan come out to invite Cena to join Team Lesnar. Cena refused and had one great line when he replied, he didn’t want to be a part of Team Sasquatch. I can just see signs next week and at Survivor Series Team Angle beats Team Sasquatch. Oh very funny and very clever. Now after Cena insulted the team, Albert came out and attacked Cena. Then the rest of Team Sasquatch joined in. So now Albert is asked to join the team and he’s thrilled. Gee you would think he would be insulted that he was an afterthought, they really wanted John Cena. This is all a great beginning to what seems to be a definite Cena face turn. And as I said at the end of the main event, it’s Cena that takes out most of Team Lesnar and then gets taken out by A-Train. Okay so I would say Team Angle has their substitute for Faarooq and Cena is it. I’m very happy about this.
Paul Heyman was on for a very short time, but I enjoyed him, he loved watching the GIANTS take out Cena during the opening. He was eating it up. The Undertaker again did a taped promo about Vince. I found it very good, he built up his match with Vince Sadistic McMahon very well for Survivor Series. And Vince did a promo that made no sense at all. However he stayed in his out of his head mode and I liked that. Vince is playing the I LOST MY MIND part very well and I can’t wait to see what he does next week since it’s the last Smackdown before the pay per view.
Raw was the better show this week mostly because Austin was so damn good, but both shows are doing a hell of a job hyping Survivor Series. I’m ready to order it now, unlike the last few months when I waited until the last Smackdown or Raw to help me decide if I wanted to see the pay per view.
