Hey all. I know its been a while, but the reasons why its been a while are actually a part of my column today. You see, I don’t frequent many other internet wrestling sites. I go over to WrestleNotes.com every now and again, I work on WOWRevolution.com and TBL, and I sometimes head over to WWE.com. That’s about it. However, the other day I ventured out and looked at some of the other sites out there. In particular, I was interested in what many of their opinion columnists had to say.
On just about every site that I went to there was a column or an archived column of someone “saying their goodbye” to the internet wrestling world in a long, drawn-out diatribe on how they no longer like the WWE product or what the wrestling world has to offer.
My response…
GET OVER YOURSELVES
Seriously! Do you think it will make the world a different place now that you’ve written a 15-page expose on how you can’t stand watching Vince McMahon’s WWE anymore? Who gives a fuck?!? Seriously! Let me bring some of you kids out there to the cold reality of the real world. When you quit your job because you don’t like your boss or your industry, do you really think that people will say, “Awww, what a shame to see him/her go?” Hell no!
Hey guys…life goes on! And if you think that you’ll be able to have a dramatic goodbye when you quit your real-life job, you got another thing coming. Your job was there before you, your industry was there before you and both your job and your industry will be there, in one form or another, after you leave.
I read one son of a bitch’s good-bye at an old friend of mine’s site and this fucking drama queen just went on and on and on for pages and pages about how he’s become disenfranchised by bad storylines and bad wrestling, etc. Dude, turn the fucking channel and watch football on Monday nights, ok? Do you really think that you are the only person in the world who can’t stand watching some of the crap that is getting put out there today? Come on, grow up! There’s a whole big wide world out there and there’s a LOT of wrestling fans out there who don’t like what they see on Mondays and Thursdays.
The only thing that separates you from the masses is that you found out about this internet thing and began writing. Remember, no one forces you to write about what you see – you do it because you love to do it (or in some cases you might be paid to write about it). In any event, it’s your decision to write and it’s your decision to quit. But when all is said and done, you’ve done nothing other than get your opinions expressed and your opinions are nothing more than a small sampling of the millions and millions of wrestling fans out there.
Good Lord – who really has the time to sit down and write pages and pages about all of this stuff that they hate when there are jobs to be had, schools to attend, and lives to live!?! Is the entire whole of the internet wrestling scene a bunch of kids/nerdy adults who have nothing better to do than sit in front of their computers all day and think that they are somewhat important in the grand scheme of things? I don’t mean this to insult any of you who might be reading this and do work in the internet wrestling world, but I profess to each and every one of my workers at TBL that this is all a HOBBY! Once you take this whole internet wrestling thing to be anything more than a hobby, you run the risk of becoming slightly psychotic and thinking that you are bigger than what you really are…which, typically, is nothing more than a person who knows how to use e-mail, can write fairly well, and has a place to voice their opinions.
So if anyone out there reading this wants to quit their writing on whatever site that they work for, take this advice – write a good-bye paragraph where you thank the people who gave you an opportunity to express your views online. After that, leave an e-mail address where anyone who gives two shits can correspond with you. Do NOT go into a pages and pages long speech about what you hate about wrestling or what you hate about the internet wrestling scene.
Long story short – get over yourselves. Yeah, you might not like what you see, it might drive you to no longer want to write about wrestling – much less watch it, but no one is forcing you to do this. You either do it because you want to or you don’t do it at all. And if you don’t want to do it, don’t give us a research paper on why you don’t want to do it – just tell us that we’ll see you later and leave us a place to e-mail you.
Nothing more is needed because ultimately, it doesn’t matter.
