First let me send out my prayers and thoughts to the Hart family. Stu Hart was wrestling. This man trained some of the best, and I’m very sad of his passing. I hope that after you read this you won’t lose faith in me. See I read the Smackdown Spoilers and my God it sounded like the WORST show ever, in fact it sounded so bad I can’t tell you how many emails I got yesterday from friends that said after what they read no way would they watch the show. Now I was watching it no matter what but I’ll tell you I wasn’t watching it with an open mind. But —– I liked the show. No it wasn’t great but it was entertaining and I really enjoyed it.
I guess I owe Kurt Angle for setting the tone for my enjoyment. Kurt was so damn good last night imitating John Cena that I’m kicking myself for not taping it. But I’ll catch it on AfterBurn this weekend and definitely tape it. Anyway this is the best segment Kurt has done in weeks. He just flowed with his extremely funny impersonation of Cena. My God the hand gestures, the facial expressions, everything was done flawlessly. And then when the little Angle came out and intimidated Kurt’s “Cena” well that was it, Kurt more than ever, made me want to see him take on Cena at No Mercy. I could watch this over and over again, that’s how great Angle was last night.
Chris Benoit against The Bashams was booked very well. Sure the switch the twin while the ref isn’t looking has been done a thousand times, but it worked last night, and Benoit, well he worked his ass off, yeah he always does, but I can’t tell you how much I loved watching him last night. And The Bashams also did a very good job. I also like Shaniqua missing. I think you can take these guys more seriously without the Shaniqua gimmick. And that is not an insult to Shaniqua. And seeing Albert just run out to beat up Benoit again worked. Even though I’m not into this Albert and Benoit things both guys have made it interesting. Okay here’s where I’m sure I will get lots of feedback and not favorable feedback, but that’s fine. I read in the spoilers how atrocious Stephanie and Michael Cole’s pre-taped interview was. In fact a reader of mine was nice enough to email me after he attended the live show, and said that the fans were chanting “We want wrestling,” He said the fans were not happy at all with what they were seeing.
Granted the interview was too long, but I expected so much worse. Steph did everything she could to get it across to us that Vince is a jackass. She cried, she looked hurt, and I didn’t mind what I was watching. Sure it was corny, but I was fine with it. Like I said it should have been a lot shorter but I can’t say it was crap. Maybe had I been there live, I might not be feeling this way. Okay I loved Angle, the Benoit/Basham match was cool, and Steph didn’t upset me. At this point I’m telling my husband, I like what I’m seeing, I thought I would be fed up by now, but so far so good. Things still continue to appeal to me. Jamie Noble and Tajiri had a great match. These two guys really added to the show last night. And Nidia sold Tajiri’s mist so well. The poor girl gets this horrible black mist sprayed right into her eyes, and she was in agony. In fact my eyes were burning just watching her. Here’s where things get BAD!
Vince and Sable in the ring. Now this segment was CRAP. Vince did what he’s been doing a lot of lately, just talking to talk. Nothing important is coming out of his mouth. It’s all just words and his words went on REALLY LONG. This segment made Stephanie’s interview look like it was only 30 seconds. So back to Vince boring the hell out of me, but wait Sable takes over and she makes Vince sound exciting. Sable’s thing about taking Linda’s man was not what I want to hear, and it’s definitely not anything I care about. Then I knew there was a kiss coming, and I mean KISS, so I immediately turned my head. I’m sick as it is from watching this in ring segment, I don’t need to get sicker. This by far was the worst part of the show nothing topped it.
So now I’m worried that the show is going to start really going downhill, but thankfully that doesn’t happen. Rhyno and my man Eddie Guerrero have a hell of a match for the U.S. Title, and Eddie wins by doing what he does so well, he cheats. Not only was this fun to watch but things really picked up when Big Show came out and basically destroyed Eddie. I thought this was a dynamite segment. Eddie being thrown and slammed on his truck and then on glass sent chills up my spine. I can’t tell you what this segment did for me. Oh maybe I can, but I will tell you on Sunday. The next match with Rey Mysterio vs. Johnny Stamboli was good, but Stamboli does NOTHING for me in the ring, the whole FBI thing is a dud and I’m so tired of two members of FBI coming down with the third member and the ref making them go back. I say use these guys in a better way or don’t use them at all.
And finally we have Taker and Brock going at it after Taker explains just what a Biker Chain Match is. As he his talking Brock comes out and the brawl starts. It’s starts backstage and then out to the ring. I think Brock is doing a great job as a sadistic heel and I feel these two are going to make their match on Sunday a bloody, brutal must see match.
So are you still with me? I liked the show and damn it I’m not going to hide that fact anymore. Okay I’m just kidding, but Smackdown was good and Sunday I will have my No Mercy Predictions. I think you might be surprised by a few comments I will have for the show.
