Raw was Flair and that made Raw a hell of a show last night. Oh yeah Ric did wonders for the show last night. I thought this Raw was such an improvement from last week’s show. There were just a few things that I really didn’t like but on the whole Raw came off very well. And before I forget I apologize for not answering my email this weekend, I have bronchitis and today is the first day I feel half way decent. So I will start getting back to my routine.
Okay here comes two things that really bugged me. I guess art does imitate life. When Steve Austin came out to stop Scott Steiner from hitting Stacy with a chair how many of you thought isn’t this the same guy that allegedly beat up his wife Debra? Well it hit me and I thought it was a little stupid to have Austin out there berating Steiner when in real life this man was charged with spousal abuse. And to make matters worse, instead of treating Stacy like a lady, Austin finds it necessary to give her the stunner because she doesn’t like beer. You have no idea how much this got to me. Not only did Austin make Steiner come off looking like a jobber while Austin was talking to him, but he made a total nothing out of Stacy for not drinking with him. I hated this segment more than the next one I’m going to talk about.
That would have to be Kane in a hospital bed, hooked up to so many different tubes to keep him alive. We hear from his “doctor” that he’s been in and out of consciousness all day. Yet, as Shane announces that he wants Kane at Survivor Series. Kane’s heartbeat not only starts to pick up, but this weak man, a man in guarded condition, manages to get out of bed like he just took a nap and take out the doctor and nurse with absolutely no effort. OH you have no idea how turned off I was by that. Sure this is entertainment and it’s no big deal, but Kane is supposed to be near death and Shane’s threats just bring him back to the way he was before the accident. Another segment that you can tell I couldn’t stand. Other minor things I didn’t care for would have to be Steiner vs. RVD. Not much of a match there, and the on going segments with Rosey trying to get out of a telephone booth, I say pull the plug on the super hero gimmick, PLEASE.
Did I say Raw was Flair? Seeing Ric Flair at the beginning of the show standing on crutches because of a hamstring pull he received at the house show the night before almost had me in tears. This poor man who loves wrestling looks like he’s in a lot of pain and just totally miserable. Oh yeah Ric really won me over with the injury. And when he came out to sit with Jerry Lawler and JR while Maven vs. Rico was going on even had me feeling worse. When asked how bad the injury was Flair said bad, he would probably be out a month to a month and a half. He would be going to see Dr. Andrews in Birmingham on Tuesday. I’m feeling even worse for Ric at this point. I’m thinking there goes Evolution, with Hunter gone and now Ric they can’t continue. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Ric was faking the whole thing. So when Ric came out to beat up Maven after Maven beat Rico I was applauding. Damn Ric sold so well he totally caught me offguard. I can’t tell you how much I loved it.
I think it’s a wonderful idea to show house show footage. I couldn’t have been happier about the opening segment when Jericho showed Shane landing on Test’s foot and breaking it during a weekend house show. Footage from these shows should be shown more often. What a great idea to later on show a mini video on all three house shows this past weekend. You saw some of the wrestlers mixing it up with the fans. They need to continue doing this to make a fan want to see a live event other than a TV event. I also loved the six-woman tag team match with Lita, Trish and Ivory vs. Molly, Gail and that wacky Victoria. Again a great job by all these women and again it makes me so happy to see what this women’s division has become. And how polite and caring of Chris Jericho to come out and rescue Trish from getting beaten up by Victoria and Steven Richards. Now many feel this is his way of starting a face turn. I don’t see that, I’m thinking and mind you it might sound crazy that Jericho will be heading a stable with Christian, La Resistance and Trish. A French Canadian stable. I could be way off but I can’t wait to see what the coming weeks bring us. The tables match with The Dudley’s and Shane and Booker (welcome back Booker) vs. Chris Jericho and La Resistance was outstanding. This baby just improved as time went on and it was a long match. But a damn good one. And the main event with Goldberg and Shawn Michael vs. Mark Henry, Ric Flair and Randy Orton came off very entertaining. Flair did all he could to light a fire under Michaels to go for that bounty on Goldberg. But Shawn just wanted to pay Goldberg back for that spear he got last week. And seeing Goldberg get that Sweet Chin Music was sweet. Okay seriously a cool ending and now because of that Eric Bischoff announced a main event next week on Raw for the World Title, Goldberg vs. Shawn Michaels. I look forward to that one. It was a fun Raw and I can’t wait to see the show next week. And find out who tried to run Goldberg down last night. My money is on Kevin Nash.
Now it’s on to Smackdown the last show before No Mercy. I’m sure Steph and dad will be the focus, but maybe I’m wrong. It would be nice to build up the Brock Lesnar and Taker feud as well as Kurt Angle vs. John Cena. And I pray that the bathroom stuff between Eddie Guerrero and Big Show is over. Oh yeah a lot to look forward on Smackdown, but I have a feeling since No Mercy is Sunday Smackdown will be a good one.
