Tommy Fierro, owner and promoter of FAN SLAM!, is very excited about this Saturday’s event. “I have been running wrestling conventions on and off for the last ten years. The very first one I ran I was 16 years old and I had Tito Santana, Demolition Ax, Jim Neidhart, Ox Baker, and Cousin Luke. I made $200 on the show and I was happier than a pig in you know what. The next one I did a year later was a huge success, drawing close to 1,000 fans at this same Holiday Inn with guests including “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Rick “The Martel” Martel, Marty Jannetty, Missy Hyatt, Doink, Road Warrior Animal, Tito Santana, and more. I drifted away from running conventions for a long time due to the fact that I was running wrestling shows on a regular basis. I did a few more conventions after that, but nothing high level like this upcoming Saturday’s show.”
“I have spent every single second preparing for this convention for the last few months” Fierro said. “It took me months to get in contact with Kevin Von Erich, but when I knew what I wanted to do with this event, I knew he was a must have. I wanted to put something special together, something unique, something that would get people talking. I’m basically taking the same formula that John Arezzi used back in the early 90’s. Every year he ran “Weekend of Champions” and they were without question some of the greatest events I have ever been to. Why were they so great? Because he brought in guests that no one has seen up this way before. That’s what I’m doing this Saturday. When do you ever see guys like Kevin Von Erich, Bobby Heenan, Ricky Steamboat, Paul Orndorff, and J.J. Dillon all together in New Jersey? You never do. It’s something special for the fans. To be honest, I might make a ton of cash this Saturday. If I do, that’s great. But if I break even or make just a little bit of money, just knowing I made a ton of true wrestling fans’ dreams come true by meeting these guys is satisfying enough for me. I want them to feel the way I felt when I walked around Arezzi’s conventions. Those memories last a life time. That’s the kicker, that’s what I’m trying to do.”
Fierro says that he will be running three to four FAN SLAM! conventions per year. “I’m going to try and finalize a date in the next day or so and advertise it this Saturday at FAN SLAM! for the next show. There are many other unique guests out there that I want at future conventions. This Saturday’s show is a good start, but I think the next FAN SLAM! will be even more unique than this one.”
FAN SLAM! will not just be the name of Fierro’s wrestling conventions, he’s going to start promoting wrestling shows again under the FAN SLAM! name. “I have run shows for many years under the ISPW name, Independent Superstars of Professional Wrestling. I ran Wildwood, NJ for two straight summers and ran over 40 ISPW events in 1999. After I get through with this Saturday’s event, all my focus will go on my new wrestling promotion, FAN SLAM! Wrestling Entertainment.”
“I urge fans to come and check out FAN SLAM! this Saturday” Fierro said. “I’m not telling you to come just because I’m promoting it, I’m telling you to come because it’s going to be a special day. I’m so excited about this Saturday’s show and have been waiting for this day to come for a very long time. If you see me this Saturday at FAN SLAM! (I’ll be wearing a suit I’m sure), be sure to introduce yourself and let me know if you’re having a good time. I’d like to personally thank each and every person for coming out to the show. I might look extremely busy this Saturday, it might look like I’m going crazy, but I’ll be having the best time. I hope you will, too.”
