It’s great to be back after taking last week off. I did watch Raw and Smackdown last week, trust me no way would I miss those shows. By the way both I thought were very good. And last night’s Raw definitely had it’s moments. I enjoyed the show. I think the Kane/RVD match for SummerSlam was hyped up very well, as was Shane and Eric’s Bischoff’s upcoming match on Sunday. I would have liked to have seen some better matches, but Raw still worked for me.
Let me talk about the matches first. The first match of the night with Trish taking on the champion Molly was done very well. I was a little upset when Gail Kim came out to interfere which ended what could have been the match of the night, well maybe not the match of the night but it had the makings of a very hot match. Don’t get me wrong I like Gail, I just think they should have booked things a little differently. So poor Stacey is Test’s property again. I can’t figure this whole thing out. I really expected her to turn on Scott Steiner, yet she didn’t, she’s still playing the face role. This is another match that was good. I could have done without the phony knee injury Test was trying to sell. I didn’t buy it for a minute, and maybe had it not go on so long it would have been okay, but again it took away from the match. And how weird was it to see Test humiliate Stacey after his victory by having her do a lap dance with Stevie Richards and Rico watching? Rico of all people I didn’t get that at all.
Listen I’m a very patriotic person I love my country, but I’m getting a little tired of the U.S.A. chants. I think it’s time to move on and get something else going. I’m talking about the Dudley’s coming out and getting the chants going. I loved the so-called service man getting abused by Dupree and Grenier. I wasn’t buying it at all, but when D-Von and Bubba brought him into the ring, he actually did a hell of a job. The guy (Rob Conway, from OVW) seemed so in awe of being in the ring. That’s when I bought his act. But I was fooled like so many others and now he’s part of La Resistance. Here’s hoping they can now find a different way to go with the group.
The Hair vs. Hair match was good. I thought Jericho again did a hell of a job and Kevin is now close to bald. I loved seeing Jericho cut off the Kevin’s hair in bulk. And then watching Jericho take the hair with him to the ramp and flaunt it at Kevin was great. I read some fans are very upset because Kevin was supposed to be shaved bald. Hey, he lost a lot of hair, his new looks is good enough for me. I found the show going along very well until Rodney Mack showed up. Boy did it get quiet. His match with Rosey was short and uneventful. And I don’t say this against Rosey or Rodney Mack. I don’t blame them at all. Again the writing is so weak that seeing these two really does nothing for me. In fact I found nothing humorous with kitten in the tree skit. It could have been funny but it wasn’t. Rob Van Dam tried to win the IC Title from Christian, but Kane made sure that wouldn’t happen. I really didn’t expect to see RVD win, and you just knew Kane would come out and go after RVD. And that’s just what happened. I simply loved it when Kane holding a chair slammed it into RVD while he went over the ropes. WOW, that caught my attention.
The main event with Randy Orton vs. Goldberg and Austin as the special enforcer was damn good. I thought Orton and Goldberg did a hell of a job. I’m loving Orton more and more in the ring and I think the more time Goldberg is in the ring the better he looks. A very good main event.
Raw seemed to have a lot of other things going like a very good opening segment.
Smart Ass Jericho inviting Shawn Michael to be his guest. I loved it when he asked Shawn a question and cut Michaels off just as he was about to answer. Jericho again rules Raw as far as I’m concerned. It was nice seeing Evolution come out and throw their weight around with Michaels. Naturally the big bullies decided to go after Michaels which brought out Kevin Nash and then Goldberg. I thought this was done very well. All the participants in the Elimination Chamber Match were out there and really pumping the fans up.
I wanted to see more of Goldust teaching his new student Lance Storm how to be spontaneous. Lance told him he did something daring he returned a video to Blockbuster without re-winding it. Goldust wanted Lance to hit the ladies locker room, say something rude to a diva and kiss her. Well Lance started to go in and that was it, we never saw what happened. I wish we would have seen more of these two, but for some reason that was it. I thought Shane came off very well last night. He was on for a short time, but his anger for Bischoff seemed real. He wanted him right there not at SummerSlam.
Now speaking of Shane his mom Linda was on quite a lot last night. We see her at home doing her work and JR let’s us know that we will hear from her about her injuries. Okay so Linda tells us she has neck problems and she should be okay. As she’s talking the door bell keeps ringing. I don’t know I would have thought that with all the money Vince has she would have someone in that house to get the door. But it seems like no one but Linda is home. It also seems like the door is unlocked because Eric Bischoff walks in. I’ll tell you he was as sleazy as he could be, in fact the segment kind of made me nervous. So Vince gets to kiss the hot Diva’s and now Linda is kissing Eric. Do we really need to see this? Okay seriously it was a weird segment but it played out well because Shane was visibly upset and I feel it just heated up their match for SummerSlam.
Seeing RVD chained and watching Kane pour gasoline on him was another strong segment. Again like Shane and Eric, I think this really helped to get the fans interested in their match Sunday. Also seeing all the guys from the Elimination Chamber match pop up after the main event was brilliant.
Goldberg pinned Orton, and then Nash took out Goldberg. Hunter is at the top of the ramp gloating, he turns and gets kicked by Shawn Michaels. Michaels then is hit with a chair by Jericho. A very good ending and I think the show came through for hyping up this coming weekend’s pay per view. Okay so the matches weren’t all that great but there was enough to make Raw entertaining. So on to Smackdown and I can’t wait to see Angle and Brock interact. I can only pray that Vince doesn’t show up as much as last week. And I look forward to seeing Eddie, Chris Benoit, Rhyno and Tajiri go after each other. Yeah it should be a very very good Smackdown.
