After Eddie T.’s report yesterday, Michael & I are back with the latest devolopments with the news and rumors. I (Martin) will start out with a few headlines, then Michael takes over with the rest of the report. Without further delay, here we go.
WWE.com has a comments from other superstars about the signing of Steiner. Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, and Chuck were among the many others who spoke about it. You may read the article by clicking here.
In ratings news, Smackdown this week scored a 3.7 broadcast rating while scoring a share of 6. The broadcast rating is up from last week’s 3.4 number.
Hollywood Hulk Hogan will be on television this week. No, not WWE, but on Hollywood Squares. You know, the show where a lot of former celebrities are on and they try to be funny. Here is how you know if Hogan is coming back to WWE anytime soon though. If he still wears the beird (which is suppose to mean he is with the nWo, but he never got rid of it after going back to red and yellow), that may be a good sign. If he is clean shaved for except for the mostache, then he is non-WWE bound. Of course don’t take that last observation literally… I really should focus on school more :-/.
Steve Austin appeared in court on Thursday in relation to the June 15th incident involving his wife Debra. Austin told the judge that his arrest definately has been a learning experience and that he would not been seen in court again. Austin has another pretrial hearing on November 25th. December 3rd is the date of his trial, unless a plea agreement is reached before hand. The state prosecutor decided to file charges againt Austin, and NOT Debra. She had until two years after the incident to file charges if she wished to though.
That does it for my portion of the report. Michael takes care of the rest.
Yo. For once, we got real news to kick it off with here, so let’s get poppin’, no?
WWE.com released this statement recently, check it out:
Big Poppa Pump signs with WWE
World Wrestling Entertainment is happy to announce it has signed Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner. Check back here as more information becomes available on this story.
This is a big time signing, the likes of which we haven’t seen in about 8 months. Steiner was a main-eventer, through and through, in WCW. Although known to be a backstage menace (he wrecked DDP backstage for little reason, he legitimately would hurt people, and he had little respect for those around him, if rumors are to be believed), he cleaned up his act (Jarrett was reportedly instrumental in that) and did a clean job on the last Nitro, even though he was legitimately injured. (It should be noted that, even with the injury, the match was still awesome.)
So where goes Steiner from here? Rumor has it he’s on the RAW brand, probably to fight Triple H. Although he has a built-in feud with Booker T. due to their past rivalries, A feud between the him and Trips screams money, if only because of their physiques. However, I would suggest allowing Steiner to prove he is totally healthy, first. After all, his damn foot used to flop around, don’t you wanna make sure that doesn’t happen while he’s fighting for the World’s title?
Other news coming out of WWE is their reaction to the Triple H/Katie Vick/Coffin-humping story. For those who did not watch RAW, Triple H and Kane continued feuding. Triple H aired a video of “Kane” (who was just Trips in a mask) breaking his Necrophilia cherry with a prone Katie Vick in a spoof segment “memory-iss-cent” of the old DX days. Whereas I, and apparently every news outlet WWE was trying to shock, took it in stride, WWE was hoping to stir some controversy. When this did not happen, they posted an apology” on their website, most believe in an effort to get the media talking. Once again, it failed.
Hopefully, this is the last we’ve seen of them trying to get a reaction, but I get the feeling its not. Vince doesn’t lose well, and as of now, he’s losing. We’ll probably see him keep topping himself like a spoiled child trying for attention until he crosses some line that makes TNN shudder. That’s difficult, you know. According to ECW, they f*** pigs.
Reactions to this angle were mostly negative, according to 1wrestling.com. The trend is starting to take shape, as every week Vince and Steph like the show, and every week, the majority of the wrestlers hate it. Last week, Vince and Co. claimed their way was right, citing the increase in ratings during that segment. I would contend that the increase was not the good kind. Sometimes, people tune in to see a car wreck. Once that happens, though, and the car wreck is over, they generally leave in greater numbers then they came. Look at WCW.
The rest of RAW was pretty straightforward stuff. Al Snow is beginning an angle with Harvard Chris and Tommy Dreamer, Kane wants to have sex with Triple H, I don’t remember what R.V.D. did, Bischoff announced a match known only as the “Elimination Chamber”, and Booker T. is funny as hell on the mic. If you want to know what happened on RAW, stop. It sucked.
SmackDown!, on the other hand, was rather entertaining. Undertaker and Brock made up, sorta. Big Show debuted as a heel and called out Lesnar, whose being turned face, step by step. Also, Rey Rey and Edge won a rematch with Angle and Benoit, and Mattitude debuted a new entrance, but got jobbed to Rikishi. Sometimes, booking logic is absent from the booking. Anyway, look for a Show v. Lesnar main event at Survivor Series, with a Triple H v. Kane rematch on the RAW side (assuming Steiner didn’t change things).
Following SmackDown!, the first non-casting episode of Tough Enough aired, and one of the girls, Jill, left. This prompted a verbal tongue-lashing from Big that shocked me, personally. He made some good points about turning back many kids who would have given their left arm for the opportunity she threw away. He said he felt sick that he chose someone who cared so little that she left on the first day. Then, Al Snow made some comments, further driving home the point into the remaining contenders. If anyone else chooses to leave the show, you can bet they’ll really get it. The other big angle on the show was the Scott kid’s pissing everyone off, it looks like it ain’t gonna get better, either. Man, and I was rooting for him thanks to the “not being able to ride a bike” thing. That rocked. Alright, off of recapping and back onto news.
Velocity will be on earlier this week, and we’ll be getting a Bikini match between Torrie and Nidia, too. Um…Confidential will be on, and they’ll probably have something “insider” like how Austin is “really gone”. I think HeAT is still on, too, probably on Sunday. I haven’t seen that show in a long ass time. Know what? Don’t plan on it either…
WWE is claiming that the backlash to the Triple H/Katie Vick angle is the worst of any segment in history. Too bad none of it is from the news, eh boys?
Shawn Michaels was on RAW and basically made it known that he was coming for Triple H. Although he’ll be at Survivor Series, I’d expect it to be in a non-wrestling role. If him and H go at it, look for it to be on a grand stage, like WrestleMania. He’s stated himself that he’s probably not wrestling too many more singles matches, so you gotta bet he wants to go out on top at WrestleMania, the best way to go.
“Garfield and Friends” just came on. Kick ass.
HA! My domination of the site continues as I have TWO new articles up, one you just read, the other is Unspoken, in which I revive the Top Ten for a week, deal with the Brock/Show feud, and kick out a joke or two that would wake the dead…TO SLEEP WITH THEM! Muwhahahahaha…Okay, so I’m not all that funny. Meh, here’s some links to stuff that is at least as good as my column, if not better in every way but just written by someone who isn’t doing the news today, and hence, don’t get the same deal of attention my stuff gets, simply because I’m an ass:
-Welcome to the staff the man known only as “The Sharpshooter”. Living a life of mystery and intrigue, he took time out to write us a column called From the Hip. The least you can do is read it. -Site chief dude person sir yes sir Joe Balrog makes his presence felt and asks you a question: What can TheBalrogsLair.com do for you to make your stay more pleasant? My advice? Register www.TBL.com. All the typing saved in getting to the site can be spent on hookers. Wait…can time be spent? I know that after hookers I can be spent.
-As plugged by the main page, the Prime Cut deals with who’s the better half-brother: Kane or ‘Taker? It does not, however, deal with meat. Go here for that.
-That manwhore Martin has a new column up, it deals exclusively with the science of the “Male Prostitute”. Why do I bust Martin’s balls? It all goes back to ‘Nam…
-A review of the NWA-TNA Pay-Per-View is around. Lousy bastard ditched out a few weeks back. WHERE’S MY CHILD SUPPORT!?
Okay, so that does it for the links and the news was dead long ago. If there’s any other columns, look for the on the main board, you lazy bastard. I can’t do EVERYTHING myself. Look for me next week, don’t forget to check out Unspoken. And with that self-plug, the next line is oh-so-fitting. This is Michael Blaszkowski saying “Its great to be here…at TheBalrogsLair! (looks around with thumb up, embracing the cheap pop).” Peace, my fellow Internet junkies, I’m out.
Michael Blaszkowski, once I post something on the newsboard, I’ll practically own this site. Well, except for Balrog. And Martin, too. And all the columnists that were here before me and are better then me. But I’ll own Adam. Adam’s my bitch. PTR round 2, anyone?
