Allright, welcome to another edition of the news and rumors, for the latest in all professional wrestling. Michael had a report yesterday, however, there is still more that needs to be covered for today. With that said, let’s get this started.
It has been confirmed by SSCWwrestling.com that Scott Steiner will wrestle Steve Corino at the HELL-O-WEEN event on October 29 at Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ. Before the match, there will be a fanfest where both men will be signing autographs and getting pictures taken. This will be one of Steiner’s first matches in recent memory. I would suppose it is possible that WWE may show some interest in this match see further see how Steiner is physically able in the ring. That is only my speculation.
Goldberg recently stated a few things on his personal website, BillGoldberg.com. Among some of the things he discussed was that he does not have any meetings with Vince McMahon scheduled anytime soon. He is currently shooting a Warner Bros. movie, and he says that is the most demanding role he has ever had. He will be in commentating in Japan for PRIDE during its show on November 24th. He also mentioned he is training regulary, the first time he has in a long time.
Certain WWE wrestlers are stating that Jeff Hardy doesn’t care about wrestling anymore. He continues to show up late for many events, including the Unforgiven Pay-Per-View. He was suppose to be backstage all day for the PPV, but showed up during the Un-Americans match. He has been fined when late to any events. Whatever Jeff’s problem is, he better fix it if he still wants a job. With the Hardy team separated, their name is not as valuable as it was a few years ago. Hopefully, Jeff can get his act together and not get released unlike X-Pac and Buff Bagwell.
Many wrestlers on the lowercard of WWE shows have been asked to avoid punches and kicks. This has been done to bring back mat wrestling. Many of the wrestlers are not in favor of this request. Personally, I like this idea and I hope we start to see a difference on TV in the coming weeks
The latest estimates for WrestleMania 18 is that it drew 850,000 buyrates in under $34 million in PPV revenues.
There have been many rumors in the last week that boxing champion, Lennox Lewis will face Brock Lesnar in a once in a lifetime dream match. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter mentioned that represenatives from both parties have spoken to each other recently. The rumors continue that this match would take place at a Pay-Per-View sometime next year, most likely being after the Royal Rumble and before WrestleMania. The other rumor is that the proposed match would be shoot, meaning, not fixed or planned out. There are still a lot of details and agreements to be made between the two parties, and this fight is still a long ways off from even happening.
This week’s Smackdown scored a 3.6 broadcast rating with a share of 5. Smackdown continues to go against stiff competition with NBC’s Must See TV, CBS’s Survivor, and the Major League Baseball Playoffs on FOX.
The New York Post a few days ago had an article featuring Nicole Bass, following her defeat to the WWE in court. In the article, the lawsuit is discussed along with different aspects of her life. You may read the article directly by clicking here.
This Monday night, Kevin Nash will be hosting the Raw party at The World. With WWE doing live feeds from the restaurant lately, it is very possible Nash will be on camera and possibly interviewed by Ross and Lawler. That should be fun to see.
In the last year, Kurt Angle has shown some interest in possibly competing in the 2004 summer Olympic games. If Angle decides to compete, he would most likely take two years off from WWE to start training. Kurt Angle has mentioned numerous times that he will make a final decision by the end of this year. The possibility of Angle competing in the Olympics again was mentioned on Smackdown this week when Eddie Guerrero mentioned it to Chris Benoit. Most people in WWE believe however, that Angle will decide not to return to the Olympics. Personally, I doubt Angle will return to the Olympics, especially considering he is older then he was at the 1996 games, he has a positive and still bright future with WWE, and the risk of getting hurt is still very great. That’s just my two cents and I would hate to see him go.
Finally before signing off, there are a few important site notes to announce. First of all, I received an e-mail this week from Ciarán Madden, author of The Smoking Gun. He notified me that he has resigned his position due to school and work giving him almost no free time to write. His columns and opinions will be missed at the site and I wish him the best of luck and thank him for his contributions to the site. He is welcomed back at anytime. Also, the site wasn’t updated since Tuesday. My FTP would not allow me to login to update, and the problem wasn’t resolved until yesterday (poor Joe Balrog is so busy with his FRATERNITY issues that he has no time for the site anymore!). Apologies for the site not being updated, but updates will resume once again.
Updates to the site will also be more frequent and sooner since I have some unofficial help now, so hopefully that will start to show. Pardon The Ring with Adam Gorzelsky and special guest Michael Blaszkowski was completed last night and should be up on the site later today. Now I am looking forward to seeing this one! With that said, either Michael or myself will return later this week with more news, rumors, and all the good stuff. Until next time, later.
