I’m not even going to go into where I have been…just know that I have done more work in the past three weeks than I ever did in high school or my first year of college combined. Not hard work mind you, not busy work, but just enough to make sure that I have no time for anything (except my job, oddly enough).
So, it looks like the WWFE is getting ready to make a big acquisition in the coming weeks. Apparently everyone on the internet is thinking that the WWF will be the final suitors for the WCW. From what I’ve heard, the whole purchasing of WCW began as an inter-office joke type of thing but as soon as the big wigs in the WWF corporate headquarters heard about it, they mulled over the options and actually laid a bid on the table. There are a few reservations that are stopping the WWF from making an outright purchase of the company, one being the ever growing list of lawsuits that the WCW is accruing lately. Not that the WWF doesn’t have a crack legal staff, but I hear that lawsuits such as the racial discrimination suit are scaring the WWFE as a corporate entity. The thing that I have to ask is as follows: Does the WWF, WWFE, or even the XFL have enough money to buy an organization that is losing tens of millions of dollars each year? What would the ramifications be if the WWF did buy the WCW? What about all of the licensees that the WCW has, the Turner associations, and the members of their staff that aren’t on the WWF’s good side?
Continuing with the above story, Vince McMahon has been flexing his muscle as of late with the members of the Hollywood industry as well as the political arena. With the WWF registering tens of hundreds of thousands of voters in their non-partisan campaign, the WWF has become a more powerful force in the political arena than prejudiced groups such as the PTC and the National Rifle Association. Also, with McMahon visiting colleges and giving lectures he has been a primary focus for motivational business speaking. Look for the speeches of Linda and Vince McMahon to become hot commodities as both are skilled orators and both can truly captivate a crowd. More on Vince in a moment…
Speaking of giving thrilling speeches, it is a well known fact that Mick Foley is one of the best talkers in the business because of his combination of indelible wit and deep intelligence. I have been hearing rumors that some colleges are looking for Mick to give the commencement speeches at their graduations this coming spring. What an honor for Mick and the WWF if these rumors turn out to be true.
Now, back to Vince for a moment. With “the Island boys” storyline brewing about there are many fans that are waiting for Vince McMahon to show himself as the mastermind behind the whole thing to “get” Austin again. As I said in a previous update, I am not a big fan of the whole racial storyline thing, but I think that the WWF is going to try to pull away from that particular genre in this main event feud. What we are definitely looking at here is an eventual bloody gore-fest of a match between Rikishi and Austin…should be fun to wait for! But in the long run, we are looking at the eventual battle between The Rock and Austin sometime around Wrestlemania time. I don’t look for it to be a racial war at that point, though. I’ve heard from the inside that the WWF will eventually enlist former superstars such as Superfly Jimmy Snuka, Afa, and Samu to take part in the entire story board. This setting gives the WWF a chance to rival some of their best feuds from the past like Austin -v- McMahon and Austin -v- Hart Foundation. Keep your eyes on this one.
Have you been to the new WCW.com yet? I must say that this is even better than the revamping that went on during the summer. Guys like Chad Damiani should be given a well deserved raise for the huge turnaround in that site. It no longer feels like a little kid site, but there is a stretch of the old ‘tude in the site. Good job by all! And while I’m on the subject, I recently was given a copy of the latest WCW Magazine. Not too shabby at all! I still think that the WWF’s RAW magazine is one of the best, but the WCW mag isn’t that bad at all.
Check out the latest TBL Video Games update, it has a load of information for ya! Also, be sure to check out the commentary of the Wrestling Prescription!
That’s all I have for right now. I should be back sometime sooner rather than later. Be good!
