This year’s King Of The Ring PPV promises to bring action and twists of storylines up and down the World Wrestling Federation! From the six-man tag team main event with the title on the line to the tournament to even the evening gown match, this PPV has something for everyone! Below are my pre-match ratings for the event as well as my comments on the various matches and storylines. Please remember that the ratings are on a scale of 1 – 5 with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
> HHH/Shane McMahon/Vince McMahon –v- Kane/The Undertaker/The Rock
This match is going to highlight the show and promises to at least tease a title change. I have to personally believe that one of the McMahons (Vince to be exact) is going to get pinned and cost HHH the title. This could lead up to HHH stating that he never lost the belt and that he is still champion. All in all I would look for Vince to spend little time in the ring and for HHH to take most of the load for his team. Shane is always good for a high risk spot here and there, but as far as continuous wrestling, that role on the faction’s team is definitely set for HHH. I would also speculate that when push comes to shove, there will be some friction on the side of Kane, Rock, and the Undertaker because at that all too crucial end of the match, you know that there will be some pushing and shoving to see who gets the pin and the title. Pre-match rating – 4.5
> Tag Team Championship
I have a really quick pick on this one. T&A will win the titles. I don’t know why I think that or what I think that they have going for them (besides that manager of theirs), but I see them coming out on top. Look for the Hardys to be great in this match as well as Edge & Christian. Pre-match rating – 4
> Dudleyz –v- Degeneration X
In this Table Dumpster match, I think that we have the possibility to see some great, yet dangerous high spots as well as the ever present possibility of Buh Buh Ray Dudley “getting wood” on Tori! X-Pac is a lock to hit some of the bigger spots of the night as well as probably being the first to get put through a table. On the Dudleyville side of the match you know that the crowd will be getting behind Buh Buh Ray and I have to think that we will be seeing him hit that patented 3D Death Drop on Road Dogg through a table. When it comes to the Dumpster end of the match, I think that everyone should remember that Tori is at ringside and that she will have a big role in the outcome of the match whether she gets put through a table or saves her men. This feud has been building up for a long time and I think that it is time now for the payoff. I look for the Dudleyz to take this contest and for Tori to get wood! Pre-match rating – 3.5
> Gerry Brisco –v- Pat Patterson
In this hardcore evening gown match, I am looking to get up and take a piss as well as maybe grab a cold drink from the refrigerator. This is obviously a throw away match, but it does add a lot of humor to the PPV card. Tell me that it won’t be absolutely hilarious to see two wrestling legends getting dressed in drag and beating the hell out of each other? I truly can’t call a decisive winner or loser in this match, but I think that neither man will wind up with the belt. Pre-match rating – 2.5
> King of the Ring Tournament
I am not going to go through the tournament match for match because that would be a treacherous task. However, I do think that Chris Jericho will get the nod in the tourney and I believe that if the WWF creative team chooses a different winner, it will be for naught. Yes, Benoit and Venis and Rikishi and Angle are all main eventers in the making, but no one can get the crowds riled and fired up like Jericho and his “Two Dollar Hooker” phrase! I am looking for Jericho to take the tournament and if he is not the man that takes the King of the Ring, then I am having my second choice be none other than the WWF’s underdog, Val Venis. Pre-tournament rating – 4.5
And that’s my little rant on the WWF’s PPV tonight. What do YOU think will happen? I would love to know! Send me all of your comments and feedback and I will be sure to respond to each and every one of your e-mails. Thanks again! Bye!!!
